So I have a great TV--60", 4k, it's fantastic... Except for brightness. I have to crank the brightness way up and *still* can't see in dark caves/areas of the game, so my question is can the flashlight be made to be manually activated? Like maybe, press the button to pull out your ghost, then press left on the d-pad to activate/deactivate it? Just a suggestion.

Did anybody else think it said fleshlight?

Edited by Erijian: 5/29/2019 9:54:46 PMI actually remember them talking about that a long time ago in a reddit comment. I think it was something like having to dedicate some kind of shaders to the entire game world rather than just sections they please and it'd be time consuming and somewhat of a waste of resources. I'll try to find the comment. EDIT: Found it. Entire reply is in Spoiler section or you can check it yourself on the reddit link I shared up top.
You are correct. Shadow casting dynamic lights are quite expensive to render. We design flashlight areas with explicit rendering performance in mind based on a full fireteam using flashlights. Conceivably we could build a flashlight-specific rendering heuristic so that they drop out when not in a traditional flashlight space, but that is not low hanging fruit. I personally would prefer to spend resources addressing areas that are considered to be unplayably dark, regardless of black/white point/brightness setting.
yeah, even when it does turn on its only afrer you are submersed in darkness
-
It may be my dirty mind but when I first glanced at your post I thought it said "flesh light"
-
Thought that said....fleshlight.....I'll see myself out.....🙄😂
-
change the A to E in that flashlight word- this post becomes so damn funny.
I am so sleepy rn.
A good idea I could not agree more, some of the locations area nightmare to navigate.
-
Would be a cool feature. When I take my meds that make pupils shrink it gets tough especially in The Weep lost sector.
-
I'm just glad I'm not alone. Since I upgraded to hdr10, being on the dark is REALLY being in the dark. I avoid some areas just because it's frustrating.
-
Remember forgetting my flashlight on in Halo which always seemed to attract the attention of very large brutes or floodies, lol.
-
Apparently flashlights and night vision are lost golden age tech.
-
Dude I’ve been wanting this for so long but I hope in D3 they add weapon lights because that would be nice. (Just default on a weapon no customization/micro transactions)
-
Use your Pip-Boy 3000. Works like a charm.
-
OMG yes. Manual Flashlight NEEDED. So freaking sick of not being able to see. 4K expensive TV and it might as well be turned off. No other game I play does this. None.
-
In pve only at least, i can see this being very annoying in the crucible or gambit for shotgun rushers
-
Been asking since the D1 beta. Shouldn't have taken this game so serious.
-
The flashlight was nerfed for the next season. Now you'll have to buy Enhanced Batteries at Eververse to use it. /s
-
I can see it now, complaints about PVP players blinding others with flashlights. (like it was in BF4)

Finally something worth upvoting.

I'd rather have night vision. We have ships that literally takes a minute or so to get from Earth to The Asteroid Belt. We can form digi matter into actual physical weapons and gear. We have SIVA....nanomites that can build cities in days. Yet....we have no night vision. Also...our power weapons and shotties have flashlights on them....also other guns.....yet....we can't use them.

They had it in Halo

HDR is based off the brightness settings of Destiny 2 before turning HDR on. I know it sounds weird and I didn't believe it either but try it and you'll be able to see in dark areas again even on HDR. So turn 4k and HDR off, load destiny, set brightness to 4 or 5, close the game, turn HDR and 4k back on, adjust black level to default (49 right d-pad presses from the far left), enjoy being able to see in dark areas again.
-
I just do a bright/exotic emote to see most of the time.

Because LED technology schematics were lost when the Red War started and attacked the tower. In Season of Opulence, you get to go back to the old Tower again for a 20 minute timed mission to get an exotic helmet that haz torch-light permanently enabled. I heard that the heroic version of the quest will need you to go back on 3 separate weeks for a torch-light shaped ship. Datamined info reveals that it's called the MagFlite.

Some areas are meant to be that dark. Increasing your tv brightness effects the whole screen not just the lighting of the area. Can only work up to a certain brightness. I don’t know what areas in what activities your complaining about but if you don’t know the areas or routes by now then I don’t know what to say 🤦♂️
