Poor Quest Step Design- hurting the game.

In my opinion the EAZ is the best aspect of Solstice of Heroes. I like the verticality of the map. What is ruining it however is the poorly designed Solstice armour quest line. Im not going to address the large grind portion as there is enough posts about that and my feelings are mixed. What I do wish to provide feedback on is specifically the 'kill 100 mini bosses in the EAZ' step. Whoever created this step failed to take into account that only counting the mini boss kills that they have completely removed any reason for people to stay to fight the main boss. This hurts the 2 players who remain in the final encounter and it also hurts people who are in matchmaking for the EAZ as they join games in progress. If you load into an instance on the final boss fight and you then stay and help kill it, once you open the chests during the scavenger hunt, you wont receive any Solstice packages, you only receive 2 key fragments per chest. As annoying as this practice is, I understand why many players are doing quitting games. Not everyone has huge amounts of play time and they are trying to be as goal orientated/efficient as possible with the time they do have. The fix for this quest step would have been relatively simple: 1. Count any mini boss kills by the [b]fireteam[/b] during the EAZ run, regardless of whether or not a player landed a shot on that mini boss. 2. Award extra progress for final boss kills; 5 per final boss would have been the sweet spot. This would encourage all fireteam members to remain for the entire run of the EAZ instance. In the future can the team behind quest design think about what possible ramifications might occur from quest design if progress is only tied to the one specific portion of an instance? As this inventives quitting games early and harms everyone's experience.

  • I like this idea. I just don’t understand why this wasn’t thought of before hand. They did it with the iron banner quest, every step was inclusive of the entire fireteam and the quest was still somewhat of a grind but it isn’t painstaking.
