will we make it to the year 3000? or 2100? i think if we make it past 2100 then there really will be no reason to make it past the year 3000 (barring an act of god)

It depends on if we can avoid being decimated by antibiotic-resistant superbugs, runaway nanotech (gray goo), or nuclear warfare. Lesser emergencies (global warming, overpopulation, etc) will simply cause large numbers of deaths without erasing civilization. Greater emergencies (creating an artificial black hole that devours Earth from the inside out) will not produce a post-apocalyptic world, they will simply annihilate everything.
