Bakta Peters sat slumped against his prison cell door. The rhythmic clomp of the guards boots as he strode down the long and lonesome cellblock hallway was like the ticking of a maddening clock, here in Shen-Pen. there was only time...
The Alliance had busted him out in the open, he had pulled off his best job yet, A full-sized Capital corvette, heavily armored, and privately owned by one of the local magistrates; a birthday gift to his snot-nosed punk of a boy apparently. Peters bemoaned the idea of some dumb kid holding onto all that firepower simply to terrorize the locals. There was no vision, no enterprise! He was going to use that ship to carve a gash of debauchery so deep into the Alliances backside that they'd never forget his name. Alas, one snitch gave it all up... His partner all these years.
Peters blood boiled just at the thought of that zhūtóu pàntú settling in some corner of the Verse. kicking back with a beer and a fresh bao bun... laughing at how he pulled one over on old Bakta.
He punched the wall of his cell several times furiously and a few rusty bits showered off, he examined his bloodied knuckles, as the pace of the guard hastened to his cell door.
A sharp rap with a baton.
"Quiet in there, or I'll make you quiet, scumbag!"
Peters paid the guard no mind, he watched as the blood and filth slowly dripped from his wounds and clenched it harder...
There were 8 days until his ship would be claimed by the magistrate, and if the magistrate decided not to make the jump to collect, it would be auctioned off to another Alliance namy-pamby with a big credit-purse and good connections... Nothing made him more angry than to think of his new baby going back into someones collection, just to sit in a dock until it's nothing more than a relic fit for a museum on Hera. Boats were meant to fly, and he wasn't gonna let them take his away.
He twirled the Keycard he had stolen from the guards in his hand, in 6 days they would change the codes, if they hadn't discovered it was missing yet. It was difficult to to judge time in Shen Kongbu Penitentiary, but not for Bakta, he had spent his whole life in space, his internal clock was shiny as they came.
Quick shuttle flight to the impound lots on Hera, and then he'd get his ship, but first he needed a crew...
He flipped the card back under the hem of his prison pants
Plenty of desperate savages in Shen Pen... One just had to know where to look.
