In the latest TWAB bungie has stated that Pinnacle weapons, or rather, “Pinnacle perks”, such as Master of Arms, Reversal of Fortune, Etc. Are no longer being made. No more new pinnacle weapons.
While many players may think this is a bad thing, and say that now there is no reason to go into comp, I don’t think that is entirely true.
For one thing, it gets rid of having to do an activity that you don’t want to do to get a weapon that is good in the activity you actually do like to do. Recluse and MountainTop has been the meta for about 2 seasons now, and before that it was Not forgotten and Luna’s howl providing that boost to precision damage by getting precision hits.
Meanwhile, in Vanguard pinnacle weapons, we have Oxygen, Loaded question, and wendigo. Wendigo was almost immediately outclassed by Swarm of the Raven due to it being an aggressive frame GL, could roll with Autoloading Holster, and having void damage, making it pairable with Tractor Cannon.
Loaded question was actually my favorite of the 3, and especially with the fusion buff has done considerably well, but due to it being a pinnacle has powercrept basically all other legendary fusions out of the picture.
Oxygen....we don’t talk about.
Now, just because pinnacle perks are going away, though, doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no reason to get these new “Ritual Weapons.”
A weapon doesn’t need a pinnacle perk to be competitive. In fact, some have argued that Beloved, a weapon that is acquired through PvE is actually better than the Season of Opulence Crucible Pinnacle, Revoker (Ironic, isn’t it?) because of it having great perk combinations, combined with a low zoom.
My point is, the way they can make these weapons “Pinnacle” and incentivize getting them is fitting them with a curated roll of perks hat can’t be found on any other weapon. They could even roll with a new perk that has been introduced that season, allowing players to try out that particular perk.
And besides, we still have exotics, which have recently been powercrept by these same pinnacle weapons. Exotics perks should be what we’re chasing after and waiting for, not pinnacles.
Alright. Rant over. I’ll be expecting salty comments in a few minutes.

I understand the balancing issues. But they were fun and added content. Seems like the opposite of the kind of things you should be getting rid of.
-
Idk, I really enjoyed the pinnacle weapons. Thats all. Kind of like and exotic weapon but legendary.
-
The way pinnacle weapons were going, they might as well have been exotics. But, they're keeping the spirit on pinnacles, just without the god tier power...they'll just be collectables that are pretty good.
-
So by your logic I should be able to get dust rock blues from crucible since I shouldn't have to do an activity I don't want to do, in order to get a high end weapon for an activity I do want to play.
-
Just cause I don't want to be wasting my time before shadowkeep as I'm going for redrix claymore and Luna's but pinnacle weapons aren't obtainable after shadowkeep?

I never have and never will play pvp if I can avoid it. Even exotic quests I avoid like the plague because of it. I’ve done SOME because of those but I just hate pvp SO much. Not because I think it’s bad, it just isn’t something I enjoy. Capture the flag is the only mode I would enjoy really, and they seem to absolutely refuse to add that. 🤷🏻♂️ So frankly it won’t effect me at all, lol. I won’t do pvp even for an op weapon. I’ve literally discarded exotic quests because of pvp requirements... Never got thorn year 2 or 3 or whatever in d1 because of it. It angered me a lot that I had to do it again, I suffered enough doing it the first time around. 🤷🏻♂️

I don't think unique perks were really a problem. Revoker is a great example of a unique perk that doesnt break the game. They can do it. The problem was their insistence on making "pinnacle perks" that increase damage beyond what normal perks could supply. Pinnacle doesnt have to mean more damage. I do sincerely hope these new ritual weapons are somehow worth the chase, but I don't know.
-
I’m perfectly fine with unique perks IF they don’t buff damage. Recluse, from what I can tell, is broken. I abuse 21% Delerium in PvE. LH/NF are OK now, and MT is too different for me to decide based off what I’ve seen. Loaded question, Hush, and Oxygen though are perfectly fine. It’s just a matter of ingenuity in designing these perks.
Sorry, all out of salt.
I do care about how many over shielded titans I had to slay to get them though and how much time they spend buffing and nuking guns to stay stone silent on the over use of one exotic though.......

Edited by Gunship: 9/28/2019 5:50:53 PMIf they add weapons 2.0 to follow along with Armor 2.0 pinnacle perks would become a huge problem. My guess is thats why they are pulling them. Thats said i think that the whole leveling light and getting 'awesome' gear is all slight of hand. To get those things we have to grind our brains out and make our friends play too. All the while they are playing every trick they know to incentivize micro-transactions and 'season' purchases. As I expected the 'free' version sucks, all the grinding, none of the cool stuff, until near the end of season, when it will become useless. The new finishing moves... Eververse. The new artifacts... A device which will dictate what weapon archetypes we MUST carry in pve to get past new unkillable mobs. Base level trash mobs? No longer will we be able to one shot them, EVER?!?! Every 3 months, everything we worked to acquire become useless. Basically, we all start from scratch. The ONLY constant going forward? Eververse.

There should always be weapons only obtained through certain activities. I dont raid so i miss out, im not crying about it. Just because some weapons are trash doesnt mean its the fault of a good gun Some exotics are pure trash and will always be, no amount of nerfs or buffs will fix that. Make pinnacles exotic /thread

Edited by BC1 Edge: 9/28/2019 7:06:43 AMI was disappointed about oxygen. Was hoping it would be my hung jury for D2
For one thing, it gets rid of having to do an activity that you don’t want to do to get a weapon that is good in the activity you actually do like to do.
I agree with everything you said except this which is flat out wrong. For the PvE players, yes. But PvP players are undoubtably still going to need to face layer after layer of RNG in PvE just like they do now and have for the past year. PvE players finally had something to force them into PvP just for two weapons that were only needed for the hardest of PvE activities. PvP players have always had to play pve for the weapons to compete with in the game that they like and probably still will.
-
It sucks hard that they've gone! They should have added even more this season...instead they went full #$tard and killed the chase. They way they are dealing with the " created" problem is just lazy and cowardly. I could give them near endless ideas for good pinnacle weapons that don't break the game in terms of damage output. Honestly this alone has really killed my excitement for this season completely.
-
It doesn't matter if there's no new Pinnacle weapons. PvP will still be a shit fest with the ones that are still available. The nerfs to NF and Lunas are a joke since it still has the same recoil pattern, mountain top is a joke, and recluse is broken AF. Until they lock Pinnacle PvP weapons to comp and pve only PvP will still be a shit show.
-
Why would anyone ever use a 900 rpm smg that is instantaneously outclassed by an exotic 750 the instant the patch goes live when 900 rpm smg’s have been worthless since the game released? Why waste an entire magazine in some acolytes face when I could shoot him once with a hand cannon and kill him? The reason recluse was better than everything was because it had insane crowd clearing capabilities. Ruining those capabilities ruins the guns entire point of existence. Period. Changing the name and nerfing it into obsolescence does nothing but piss off everyone who enjoyed using it. Trash perks are still trash whether you care or not is your prerogative.
-
So revoker, recluse, Luna, MT and NF are not in the loot pool anymore? Or will they show up?
-
With how easily the Recluse outshines every other SMG in the game I can say, with confidence, that I'm glad they're stepping away from pinnacle weapons.
-
They said pinnacle weapons outclassed exotics. Well, my answer to that would be stop nerfing exotics (looking at you whisper and lord of wolves). They said it outclassed legendaries too. Well, stop nerfing perks like box breathing and trench barrel. If they didn't nerf trench barrel, people would need to decide between EP and recluse. Bungie pushed pinnacle weapons to the top because they weakened everything around them.
-
Edited by MAJ-TERROR: 9/28/2019 6:01:51 AMIt all depends on how good their combination and does this combination can be obtained or it is just specified by doing the ritual quest. Yet we need to wait and see by ourselves. I hope the archetype is available by playing, but their combination is only by doing the quest (hoping the combinations worth it).
-
Pinnacle weapons are fine to me. Something to work towards, though the grind is a bit much.
-
Not forgotten is all that's left, no point in bothering with that crap otherwise
-
Comp pinnacle weapons should have been banned from qp at the beginning or at the very least should have been exotics. Now there is no reason whatsoever to play comp other than going for unbroken because a “competitive” mode doesnt work without dedicated servers.
-
I’m ok with it. I rarely used them anyways. Personal meta = best meta
