The best video I've seen on the Destiny matchmaking discussion from one of the best and most prolific Crucible players in the game

Jyelly pretty much nails it. The only things I would add are that the only players who "relax" in straight cbmm playlists are the top 10%. Everyone else sweats twice as hard. I'd also point out to those who don't know, D1 had sbmm from Day 1, it just was weighted much lower in year one and was raised in TTK because of player complaints about hugely mismatched games.

  • Well according to what better games and developers are saying, sbmm is the new norm so if you make a living off destiny ( bungie can shut down servers and send you into poverty) I suggest getting gooder or take your wannabe star ass to a real mlg title. Oops sorry, sbmm is in those games too

    • Saw the video, not at all impressed. Basically what he said was that he doesn't have a problem with it so therfore we should end the discussion. I didn't have a problem with Forsaken mm, why couldn't we end the discussion there? Yeah, see what I mean?

    • I don't really think the issue is sweat fests. It's the 15+ min match making is the biggest issue.

      • A ton of his points dont mkae much sense 1. He starts off with "you have your choice of cbmm or sbmm", the fact is you pro-sbmm guys literally had this all of forsaken. 4/5 playlists had sbmm yet the one without was somehow an issue huh? If classic mix was where control is currently as it should be as the social mode it would probably be fine. As its hidden in a corner it gets few peoples attention and as a result you match the same players assuming you're willing to wait long enough to find a match. 2. He finds issue with people saying they want more cbmm modes but also saying not to go into classic, no kidding when classic again is hidden so gets low player numbers meaning the only people you match are stacked teams, know what would dilute them? More cbmm modes like 50% of the population want and what should have always been a 50/50 split. 3. He says he expects a casual experience in destiny pvp which does not exist with sbmm unless he throws enough games to get into chill lobbies 4. He mentions having 1 playlist for each side when all but 1 in pvp are sbmm and on top of that they're some of the most apparant and focused on in the directory. Hardly an even split as me and most other cbmm people want. 5. He claims bungie should be commended for the work they've done. Yeahhhh no. Even they admit they did practically zero the entire Y2 and the only changes Y3 got were some playlist changes, solo comp and changes to win streaks and a d1 map. Not exactly what people envision when they hear "renewed focus" 6. Finally he says "we need to move on from this discussion" No. We should have moved on from the discussion the whole last year when most pvp catered to the sbmm crowd but it somehow wasnt enough. Now will continue this discussion until changes to appease our side of the community are made.

      • A clear eyed and mature take on the subject. One that looks at it from a community perspective and not “what’s best for me”. Unfortunately pretty rare among gamers.

        • Personally I don't see why there needs to be a discussion in the first place. Why can't we have more game modes that support both SBMM and CBMM ( e.g. keep all current SBMM playlists and add another CBMM mode like Freelance Classic Mix) Alternatively, allow players to set their own preferences.

"One of the best and most prolific players" ... He has the same stats that I do and no one on this thread has heard of him lmao. He says he isn't struggling with SBMM but dude is barely positive in clash and supremacy this season after having a 2.35 and 1.92 kd for both of those playlists before sbmm was added. He said he used to have 70-kill games but his best is 52. He was probably talking about defeats which is misleading. Change the title to "I found some random above average player on YT with barely 1k subs that agrees with me on SBMM and therefore the 90% of good players that disagree are lying" because we all know that's how you really feel.

We know you are bad at the game and are a massive SBMM shill. No need to double down. The player numbers speak for themselves

                    • I agree that SBMM is good, but SBMM could always be better, and Bungie owe it to their PvP players to improve their algorithms for closer, fairer matches. Of course, again, without dedicated servers, no matter how good SBMM is, it's the cheaters who are going to win. Although I laugh when the cheaters cheat and they still lose, because they're that bad that they can't even win with a lag switch at their disposal. ;) But then, they're cheaters who rely on cheating, pubstomping, stacks, meta to win, not actual player skill, so of course they're terrible: they're coddled by every advantage they have over other players that isn't actual skill.

                    • I never got the SMM mentality. How smooth does the "ride" got to be for you to enjoy a game. How about the reality of not having the skill till you play enough to "git gud"? ;-)

                      • If anything they should work more on the S+CBMM mix. Tighten the CB boundaries a little so the so the minority brackets don't play folks across the globe so often by default. Loosen the SB boundaries a little so queue times aren't as bad on the minority brackets but would still maintain relatively balanced SB lobbies for all brackets to prevent stomping. We aren't necessarily too far from an option that'd minimize frustration across the board.
