An Idea for Sword Masterworks (swords and swing speed)
I've always thought swords could use something to make them more interesting. A lot of the random-roll swords we have today are almost just model swaps with different elements and they don't really have much variety with their main traits. What is it, like 3 or 4 possible traits that can roll in each slot? I think they could use some more perks, like maybe something that gives you ability energy of some kind, partially restores your health or something else.
BUT that's not why I'm making this post. Another thing that's been on my mind is the swords from Year 1 that came with a faster swing speed similar to Worldline Zero, like Zephyr or Double-Edged Answer. I got to use them on another account and I miss them. They felt pretty unique for legendary swords with their faster swing speed. I want to get my hands on another sword like those.
So, that got me thinking something like this. What if we gave swords more masterwork options to make things interesting with them again? As we all know, every single random-roll sword in the game can currently only roll with an impact masterwork. There's nothing wrong with extra impact - everyone loves some good damage.
But what if we had a swing speed masterwork? Now, a lot of players might be like "what's the point" because increasing the swing speed is basically just giving it another masterwork that increases DPS. Well it's not just that. Increasing the swing speed could have 2 effects. #1, it could affect your sword technique. In cases where there are multiple targets or something rushing you, you would be able to fight them off more swiftly. And #2, the more swing speed, the faster you might burn through your ammo as a potential drawback, though faster hits may improve the DPS more than an impact masterwork. Besides that, it could at least make the swords more interesting in the masterwork department. And it could bring back that swordplay unique to Worldline Zero and those other swords as legendary weapons again.
Another idea I had was for a defense masterwork. I know a lot of players don't like blocking, but if there was a way to masterwork your sword and increase the defense stat by, like 10 or 15 points, it could incentivize that playstyle more.
I'm not sure about range and efficiency though. Range is, well, you'd figure something like that should relate to the model of the sword, so a range masterwork might not make sense. And efficiency from my experience usually just becomes a problem if you block excessively. To me, it all really comes down to mastering the timing of a sword.
The main thing I'd like to see is the swing speed masterwork idea becoming a real thing. I'd love to use another legendary sword that feels like Zephyr again.
