Cobalt was completing his daily patrols, getting ready to retire for the night, when he received a call from one of the Watchers, sophisticated pieces of technology that acted as warning systems for the Sheriff’s Department. Making his way over to the disturbance he sees the sphere containing the prize, and moves toward it. Reaching out his hand, he attempts to touch the field, but is blocked by an unknown force. Questioning the bystanders, he gains the details of the challenge, and decides to test his hand.
Armed with a R-101 rifle and a backpack of golden treasure, Cobalt embarks on a journey to the Dwarven Forge. Arriving at the base of the mountain, two massive statues, easily 40 feet high, depict dwarven warriors, armed with warhammer and shield, defending the realm below. Entering the corridor beyond the stone guardians, Cobalt descends into the heart of the Forge.
A stone bridge is the only entrance to the Forge, an archipelago of stalagmites rising from a lake of magma. Dwarf guards flank the bridge, while clockwork spiders armed with lightning cannons skitter on the sides and under the bridge.
“Halt, Automaton! You’ve entered the territory of the Forge Guild. State your business, or face the punishment.” Cobalt stops in place, and slowly takes off his backpack. Taking out two pouches of gold, he hands them to the guards.
“I’m looking for the Draftsman. I’ve come to assemble a weapon.”
2 Days Pass.
“That’s a fine looking blade, worthy of a King!” The Dwarf raises his goggles, and sets down the blade, resting it on an ornate cloth.
“A Princess, actually.” The Draftsman hands Cobalt the sword and a sheathe. Inspecting the sword, then sheathing it, he ties it around his waist. “Thank you. It was a pleasure working with you.” Cobalt handed the Craftsman the backpack of gold, then turns to go.
“Automaton! If you’d like to work again, it would be my honor.” He extends his hand. Taking it, Cobalt shakes it, then walks out of the Forge, and back again to Offtopic CIty.
Unsheathing the blade and setting it on a workbench, Cobalt removes various components from storage, and turns on a work lamp. Tinkering with the blade, he adds experimental technology, and enchants it with various runes to empower the Sword. Finally, at the end of his experiments, he has created a blade truly worthy of a Princess, Queen, or even a Goddess.
A European longsword, with a Damascus Steel blade. Glowing blue runes of power, strength, dexterity, and magic ability line the blade. A switch has been added to the hilt, allowing for the handle to be shortened for one or two handed combat. Inscribed on the crossguard in an elegant script, are the simple phrases; “A blade for the Princess. This blade is for you, and you only. Strike your enemies down, and make them yours.” The core of the blade has been removed, and a neon blue cylinder has replaced it. The core seems to constantly shift, like a living organism. Inside the hilt, a beam focuser uses stored energy from the user to form an energy barrier around the blade, in the style of elegant weapons from a more civilized age. Taking up the blade, Cobalt swings it at a feral cat. As the blade contacts the cat, opening a wound, a portion of the cylinder leaks out of the sword into the animal. The eyes of the cat glow blue, and a symbol of control appears on its forehead. Where a once feral cat was a docile kitten sits, purring. Cobalt picks up the cat, and strokes it, then sets it down, where it runs and jumps onto a heater, content. Satisfied, Cobalt re-sheathes the blade, and prepares to hand in his work.
