Atop his Watchtower, the harbinger waits
His trumpets and horns sealed off in their case
With glory and failure gripped tight in each hand
He spends all his hours surveying the land.
With sparkling eyes the fairy queen came
She proposed to the Watcher a dangerous game
Up went her fiddle and wide went his eyes
As he watched her fiddle in her mortal guise.
He took up the tune on his ivory keys
They played their fair music with unheeded ease
She pled with her eyes and he thought with his heart
Then he took her fair hand, and they swiftly depart.
And the Eternal Watchtower crumbled to dust
For in fairy queens, one should never trust.
