The sea parted a little under the body of the speeding Kom’rk fighter. Up ahead, the glistening white snow could be seen in the northern mountains of Offtopic.
Of home.
Giant eased a bit on the throttle and angled the ship to make the ascent. He’d have to circle around the right a little before he could land because of the speed, but he didn’t mind. A fly by of the colossal island would make for a nice view and a welcome reminder of why he was here.
“This was well worth the trip.” He said, patting his axe-handle on his hip. “You did well.”
The handle radiated a warm amber glow in response.
“I appreciate you too, friend.”
He looked out the side window as he made the descent. It was almost morning. The Sun’s warm rays were steadily creeping up from the horizon, casting a glow onto Offtopic that gave it a magical glow, like some ancient city from an old story.
Giant chuckled. “That is so fitting.”
The axe-handle glittered in agreement.
Reaching his destination, Giant flipped a switch in the control panel, steadying the ship. He got out of his seat, walked to the aft section of the ship...
...And immediately leaped out into the freezing wind.
He laughed merrily as he drew his axe from his side, the handle extending, and the bronze blade materializing from it like a tree’s leaves growing out from its crown. He swung it around clockwise in his right hand and heaved it towards the ground, reaching terminal velocity in a matter of seconds. He reached out his hand before he hit the ground with a thunderous boom.
The dust settled, the bronze warrior lifted himself with his axe and started walking towards a metal pattern in the clearing ahead, resembling an axe in front of a large U-shaped shield. Before he reached the center he pressed a pad on his wrist, and diamond-shaped artifact materialized in front of him. He waved it forward into the center of the pattern, where it descended into an open cavity. The pattern began to rotate as gears locked into place, the key activating the dormant machine. A beacon of light shot up from where the cavity was, illuminated the dawning sky.
Satisfied, Giant sheathed his axe. “Now is the time to show the others, wouldn’t you think?”
Giant didn’t even need to look to know that Echo wholeheartedly agreed.
It’s certainly been a while hasn’t it?
