On Spectral Blades...

Spectral needs a PvE boss buff.

Spectral needs to stay the way it is.

Spectral needs... Something.

Hopefully people will have read the post before voting, because poll placement is dumb... So, I'm an "okay" PvPer. I get a slow start sometimes, sometimes I get cleaned up by random wild sweats (and I expect that), but I stay positive for the most part. My KD is pretty good, about average. But get this... I just went into Gambit and popped my super, wiped out the envoys with Spectral, then turned around to fight the primeval... Dude's health bar didn't even MOVE. Just looking at the numbers displayed on my screen, I was doing more damage with my 1050 Breachlight. Significantly more. Almost twice as much, in fact. Taking it to regular PvE, it has the same effect. Rank-and-file gets slaughtered, bosses don't even feel it. It's like the super has absolutely no purpose beyond mob clearing and you're forced to depend on others to do damage where it matters... And anyone who regularly works in solo queue with "blueberries" understands this almost never works out. PvP, on the other hand... I see why PvPers hate us so much. It one-shots, just like red bar enemies. Kills are easy with that super, as they should be with ALL supers. Supercharged Light is terrifying. Have I been killed mid-super? Yes. A titan panic-punched me at the same time I went to strike and I died from full health. It was the funniest thing I'd seen all week and I even let him know. You were committed. I couldn't even get mad. He knew it was a one-shot kill, because he watched his entire fireteam just drop like dominoes in front of him. ...Then why the dramatic power difference? Why can this super be so scary to things as big as ogres, but then suddenly a "boss" class enemy can't even feel it? Primevals, strike bosses, Traveler forbid you bring your blades into a raid, you'll get laughed off the team. The only viable super for bosses is the Golden Gun, and that's quite an issue for people who say, I dunno, want to explore ALL subclasses the designers made for us...? I have a titan I use from time to time and find all three supers to have viable applications in both PvP and PvE, and I don't have a warlock so I can't argue for the floatie friends, but why are hunters set to this stencil? Why do we have a super that is only viable in PvP or small-arms clearing? Would it be too much to ask for this super to get a buff against bosses in PvE? Just a little one, so we can actually, I dunno... DO DAMAGE to them? At all? I never see spectrals in the wild, only in PvP, and I believe this is why. It makes a fine guardian killer, for sure, but it can't be secluded to just one game mode and neutered in all others. I want your opinions on this. Good, bad, ugly, go ahead, O community mine. Tell me what you think about Spectral Blades and your sweet, buggy, chaotic experiences with it. If you feel at least SOMETHING needs to change with Spectral, comment your ideas. Let's hear it.

  • Spectral is a add super, not a boss one. More akin to the top tree tether.

Spectral blades should gain a buff on repeated target damage, such as a boss, that allows you to attack faster and faster without taking additional cost. This would reset on kill or if you miss an attack. This would benefit if bungie added more combos to all the melee supers (arcstrider, spectral, FoH), for faster button inputs with higher speeds would result in more damage, allowing you to be creative with your attacks instead of “YEAH, MASH BUTTON”, and of course if they fixed hit detection.

    • Spectral blades clears mob trash. And let's you be invisible to survive better. Its not intended for boss damage.

      • Sure. Buff it in PvE against the AI, but buffing it in PvP is asking for trouble.

        • How about they let attacks in super apply Shattering Strike?

        • Voted for boss buff. I can't say what I could really suggest beyond a flat damage buff against boss enemies, but I fully agree that spectral blades is regarded as only having any practical use in PvP. I think every subclass tree should have some viability in both modes, and spectral blades definitely lacks very visibly in that department.

        • Besides arc staff roaming supers suck in PvE, the one thing about the stasis ones that doesn’t look good.

          • PvE? Absolutely! I would say I want Fist of Havoc to get a damage buff as well but let me explain what I would rather have... If an enemy survive a Fist of Havoc Shoulder Charge they get launched up into the air... I think it would be really cool if the Titan could jump up and then proceed to slam the flying enemy into the ground. If they die by that then they cause a massive arc explosion. But yes... Give Spectral some buffs for PvE.

            • I don't use Spectral Blades because it's so similar to Bladedancer which I really hated. Spectral could definitely use a damage buff, but what I'd like to see more is an accuracy buff. Too many swipes seem to hit nothing. It may be a controller issues, as I seem better at using it on PC, but it's still pretty awful.

              • This is the way I feel about Dawnblade and Stormcaller: we can clear ads all day and do pretty good in PvP but when the Big Bad shows up? Nadda. I think supers are designed with roles in mind and are tuned accordingly. It doesn’t surprise me to hear Hunters are having the same issues with Spectral Blades. It’s gods damn terrifying in PvP.
