The bells tolled across OffTopic, and noon arrived.
In the midst of a busy workday right after a holiday, the ground began to buckle and shake. Jostling several feet into the air, houses were torn from their foundations, freeways collapsed and massive rifts appeared across the city. Immediately after the primary shocks, a second wave more violent than the first followed. Skyscraper’s wobbled under the stress and several smaller buildings fell into the growing rifts. Earth day had come.
Rising from the newly formed holes in the ground, creatures of stone and the lands beneath rose in anger. Massive, scaled worms covered in purple mucus ran amok, giants of stone battered down houses and small, almost fish like creatures began swimming out of the ground to eat cars and other metals. When the shakes seemed to quiet down, the largest earthquake to hit OffTopic arrived, opening an enormous subterranean cavern West of OffTopic. And with it, arrived the Elder.
Looking somewhat like a gargantuan turtle covered in dirt, as if a mountain had decided one day to get up and move, the zaratan began its slow but steady pace toward the city walls. Each step sent shockwaves that leveled nearby groves, and its mammoth shell that spanned several hundred feet across absorbed the preliminary firepower from the outer defenses. Desperate to stop this beast, more police were rushed to the walls to help. But when they arrived, the purple worms had begun eating through the wall itself.
Shouting in ancient primordial like the Elder before it, the Zaratan gave its challenge, albeit in simple form.
“I crush all who stop me.”
The monster roared again, and the sound of bell towers crumbling into dust echoed across the city. Cataclysm was not over yet.
Welcome to the second part of my sorta one-man apocalypse! Current objective is to survive the Elder’s onslaught, save civilians caught in the rifts/evacuate them since the ground is still shaking and stop the Elder from destroying the city.
Good luck!
Update!
The Elder has breached the first wall, and almost reached the second. Due to several high yield explosives being used, visibility is now very poor and radiation is high. Rocks and rubble continue to fall from the sky like rain, pummeling everyone not taking cover.
