I just recently started going through the new light campaign even though I am an experienced player to see how the new intro missions go. Immediately I ran into Shaw Freaking Han. To say I was not impressed by this new character was an understatement.
This guy is the worst. He talks like a jaded veteran, but because of his lackadaisical planning in the Cosmodrome he got some of his fireteam killed. He looks bland, talks bland, has the blandest personality. If limp white bread toast could come to life, it would be Shaw Han.
Compare Han to someone like Saint 14. Now that's an interesting character. Imagine starting the campaign and having Saint 14 take you under his wing. Now that would have made an impression. That was a true veteran, one you'd believe in. Not Shaw Han, the boy scout trying to talk tough.
This is such a missed opportunity. New characters are not added into the game very often, so to settle on a half-baked character like Han is such a shame. Oh well. At least the intro campaign is short and you don't have to see Han much after that.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It's always interesting to see other players' takes on things in this game.
-
Bring back Shiro-4. Same voice actor anyway!
-
He looks like a fortnight reject. I guess its so ftp new light players can feel at home?
-
He looks like a claymation character. The lovechild of playdough and parkinsons.
-
He kinda sums up d2 npcs pretty well. Why bother creating a back story or some legendary character when they're just going to end up being a bounty vendor. Just look at S14 and Osiris, the talk of legends in d1 then by the time we actually meet them in d2 they have a little cutscene then give out bounties, woo!
-
I think he serves his purpose well - he introduces new players to Story missions, Patrols, Bounties, and Strikes. As a character, he’s forgettable, but I think that’s by choice. I much rather deal with Shaw Han NPC’s who are useless, than interact with Legendary Guardians like Osiris, Ikora, Zavala, Saladin, etc, who we keep hearing awesome stories about, but get their asses whooped every time a new Destiny threat appears.
-
Lay off of Shaw. He’s cute!!
-
I don't mind his personality so much, there is a place for bland people in fantastical settings. My issues stems from his appearance, the art style for his face looks different to that of the rest of the game, he almost looks like a cartoon.
-
Glad I am not alone... I felt the same way when I saw him.
-
It should’ve been Crow. He should’ve showed you the ropes especially considering he’s a “new” guardian. Then it could’ve ended with him being taken/captured (whatever the actual lore is) by Spider at the very end. Would be more “new player” friendly as well.

Edited by sonicBOOM5431: 1/11/2021 8:16:12 PMDon't finish it. If you do the strike, shaw han and zavala will forever refer to you as a new guardian whenever you run the navota strike, whether it's in the playlist or from the director. Its EXTREMELY annoying. Ive never wanted to take back something I did in this game so much. No shaw, my 6 YEAR OLD, BATTLE HARDENED guardian does not have any nerves running an easy strike ive ran HUNDREDS of times years ago. Shut up and leave me alone. The strike aint even remotely a challenge like it was back in d1.
Limp white bread
😂

He's as generic as the "content"!
-
Edited by Theshield09: 1/10/2021 3:25:59 PMI kinda understand what they wanted to do with him but damn does he look generic. The idea of having a "veteran" guardian as a guide for new players is a good choice. They give them a basic NPC to introduce them to the world of destiny, someone who isn't heavily linked to the lore, again an understandable choice. The issue I have with him is the lack of originality and personnality. He is just Blueberry Hunter #13428. No special look, nothing unique or memorable. Just give him something interesting for god's sake. He's just this "incompetent vanilla hunter from the cosmodrome" as me and my friend say. Him and the cosmodrome feel like they only exist for new players, that's a big issue.
-
He also treats you like an actual kindergartner unlike a new guardian
-
But his bounties can be called "Han-jobs"! He needs to stay JUST for that!
-
i bet hes gay also
-
The worst part is that if you make a new character, you have to play through his entire -blam!-ing storyline to get the other two subclasses.
-
I would have liked him better if he was literally a talking slab of wood. (which he pretty much is anyway)
-
Least they were accurate with how this game has been in a spiral of crap with the representation a hollow soulless character with no emotion and just do bounties shoot stuff and shut up lol.
-
you know what fails for me, his outfit think about it, all the others have something epic that you can't get in the game, not the same for Shaw Let's start with the gauntlets, no one rocks those anymore since they took away the second trip mine, the boots are from Last Wish, the helm is just insight rover (which I do like ) and the chest piece is meh. other than that he's fine
-
What’s really funny, is that Shiro-4 would have been perfect for this role AND IS THE EXACT SAME VOICE ACTOR AS SHAW! THEY WOULD HAVE SPENT THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT AND WOULD HAVE HAD A BETTER CHARACTER!
-
Half baked new character, half baked Cosmodrome without Siva damage and quarantine zone. Half baked content, classic Bungie
-
Damn! I forgot all about him. I only went to the dome once lol.
-
I actually don’t mind him. He’s thankful and grateful for guardians help. Unlike anti-guardian Suraya Crapthorne. She’s so bitter about not having light. Lol.
-
Now explain why one of the most powerful people in the world would be hanging around the cosmodrome training new guardians.
