So I played the first destiny to death and loved it, played destiny 2's original campaign and loved that too and I've recently come back from a long hiatus loved the dlcs.....and hit a wall all because of ascendant shards and how impossible they are to get. I can either grind for hours and hours (theres a redit thread of the cost its insane for a new player like me) to buy 1 single shard from banshee, do the same in gambit games, or get them pretty quickly in master nightfalls.......that I can't do with out a fire teem I don't have and high level gear I can't make with out shards
So I want to do the endgame content raids dungeons high-level nightfalls ect. The game says to do that I should increase my light level past 1250,
sweet how do I do that,
get exotics and masterwork legendaries,
sweet how do I do that,
upgrade them and cap it off with an ascendent shards and buy exotics with ascendent shards too
Sweet how do I get ascendent shards?
Do high level end game content
..........oh.

You don’t need exotics or masterworked legendaries to level up. You can do that by playing your powerfuls / pinnacles. A bit grindy, but not hard. There’s a couple of ghost perks that increase you chances of core or enhancement prisms dropping from activities too which help you gather those materials along the way. By the time you hit a high power level, you should have some of the mats you need to make some choices about what you buy (prisms / shards) or what you upgrade Weapons don’t need shards to masterwork. If you get a decent rolled legendary along the way, you can masterwork that with enhancement cores which are easy to collect along the way. You can use a higher power weapon and infuse it to the power level you want. Doesn’t help with your lack of shards I know, but it hopefully helps you a bit to power up and be able to do those activities that grant them. Good luck!

You get 3 of them for free from the season pass Along with some prisms and cores along the way. I agree the grind can be a bit much starting fresh...but once you can get a ghost mod for prisms from strikes or whatever...it gets a little easier.
