How can it be called special ammo when it’s everywhere?
Trials report clearly shows that it’s reliance is too great. All platforms have felwinters as the highest kill weapon. While a testament to how strong this weapon is, the self sustaining special ammo economy is a terrible design that permits itself to continue to be a problem.
It needs addressed.

So people in here will say the answer is to adapt, but they’ll go in another thread and cry about stasis. You’re right. Special ammo eco in PvP is out of control, and has been for a very, very long time.
-
no thanks. either adapt or go play D1 if you’re getting ran over by special weapons. they’re fine rn. smgs and sidearms could use another buff.
-
You start off with special ammo every round and you get special ammo when revived. It's CQC 3v3 special weapons being involved is part of the game grow up. Go play D1 if special ammo is that big a deal.

I agree that the special ammo economy needs work. The effectiveness of most special weapons is fine, but it's way too easy to get absurd amounts of ammo. There will always be outliers, that's kind of the nature of a loot game, especially since Bungie consistently tries to introduce new loot and wants us to want that new loot. The goal should be to limit how much they can be used, not to neuter everything that shines. This probably needs to start with eliminating scavenger perks in Crucible, makes the useless or give them some other function, but scav is the core of the problem. For the most part, I am fine with starting ammo, I don't think it's ideal as is, but it is a bit too enablist to get 2 shots every life with no limitations. I tend to think that 2 shots for the first life (and at the beginning of rounds) and 1 shot per subsequent life would be better. Gaining special ammo should be earned, via assists and final blows with primary weapons and some abilities, or something similar. Ammo bricks just don't favor the people who deserve them enough. Too many times random teammates pick up ammo that they didn't help generate. Cleaning up specially bricks after a firefight creates too much leverage for surviving players. If a 2v2 results in a double trade, why should the 5th player who happens along right after be rewarded with 4 bricks? These are just ideas, of course, but ultimately I think that the answer to fixing things like Felwinter's Lie, Arbalest, and other specials that feel OP is in limiting how much they can be used. Sure, a nerf here or there is probably the right call, but sometimes nerfs completely ruin a weapon (see Sleeper Simulant).

It's called energy, not special

3 upvotes lol says everything.

It has nothing to do with ammo economy. The problem lies in the weapon itself. This is why Destiny 1 went to shit, is players like you complaining about special ammo.

Edited by Soupreem: 3/21/2021 8:21:10 PMHand Cannons alone are out-killing all special weapons combined, let alone just one type. Before you say "But Felwinter's!" Felwinter's is a free roll of 2 overpowered perks that doesn't lock you out of a 120 HC, and allows Dead Man's; arguably the best gun in the game. No other Aggressive energy shotgun that's not sunset can compete with the default roll of Felwinter's, let alone beat it (outside of niche picks in Lightweights). If anything, this week's stats prove that Hand Cannons are over-relied on, or otherwise in need of retooling, since they have just under 40% of all Trials kills as of me writing this.

Scavenger mods shouldn’t work in PvP.
-
No thanks. You people cried about auto rifles. You cried about scouts. Now you're crying about special ammo. Just accept you aren't good at pvp, it's not special ammo or some weapon's fault. Quit crying and begging for nerfs and ruining everything.

Shut the front door
on your way out
NO!!!we’re not doing this again. Year 1 of destiny 2 was the slowest most stagnant state of pvp in destiny’s franchise history. Going backwards like that would only kill crucible even more. And guess what it still wouldn’t stop the complaining. If it became all primaries with barely any special ammo, The consistent group of people who are terrible at PvP and cry nerf on everything would soon beg for a nerf on all abilities that kill them, next it would be on any primary weapon that kills too fast in close range or kills too fast at long range and it keeps going in a viscous cycle. Until nothing feels viable let alone strong. You know why I know this? It’s because it’s exactly how crucible ended up at the end of Destiny 1’s life cycle. Everything was garbage to the point where sidearms were considering “OvErPoWeReD”. And they transferred that same model to the start of destiny 2 but made it worse.

Hard agree. Felwinter is fine there is just way to much ammo for it. It should not be possible to get 30+ kills per match with special weapons.
-
Basically special weapons are primaries. Special ammo scavenger perks need to go in PvP. Further more there needs to be SERIOUS increase to flinch for all special weapons. I get two head shots on a guy charging towards me with a shotgun and he still lands his one shot kill. It ridiculous.

The least they could do is make SG scav cost....10...no...how about 11. Yep 11 sounds good. Ha...nah but...
Fix the ammo economy in general, remove the ammo perks. Redo the perks in general. Artifact mod perks should be the likes of Surge Eater, Sundering Glare...only. Place dexterity back into legs.
I believe 2 shots of special per life should be all you get in 3s. In 6s I think a full clip would be fine. You still can't wipe a team with a SG.
-
Everyone should just spawn into a match with a set amount of special. That way you can't just run around using a felwinters as a primary and will teach you to use it sparingly.
-
Easy fix destiny 2 vanilla weapon system there done. Only thing hat needed to be done was allow more player in quickplay only to get the heavy and more heavy ammo reserves and that was it. Destiny 1 weapon system sucks and always has sucked because of the one hit no skill meta that is plaguing the game now. I blame everyone who wanted the horrible system back without realizing what was going to happen.

Reported post for hate speech. Special ammo matters.

Bring back the special ammo crates from D1
-
i want destiny 2 year 1 meta back
-
Yes bc MFs are running up to shotgun you while you're frozen or slowed. Scav perks can go away, idc, but I'd like to be able to move without a hunter dodging every 10 seconds and slowing me pls god
-
True, but for some reason people think any change to special ammo will takes us back in time to Y1
-
Just makes it to where only primary kills drop special.
-
Would like them to return to special ammo crates again for competitive gametypes at least.
-
Ammo economy is in a great spot now. Unless everyone wants to go back to D1 Y3 or even worse, D2 Y1 then there's no need to mess with it. There is a reason we don't have ammo crates like D1 and theres a reaaon we don't have a primary only sandbox.
-
Edited by Machine_DNA: 3/20/2021 7:57:35 AMI think so too. Special weapons will always be meta due to their power and by having ammo always available to them then we will always have these issues. I don’t want D2 year1 and I don’t want destiny 1 special ammo crates but I do want a reduction of overall special ammo in play.
