Hunter movement needs a nerf. Hear me out...although I already know that most will disagree. But it's still my opinion and my feedback, so I can utter it regardless.
The fact that Hunters get their dodge faster, in general, than Titans or Warlocks get their class abilities, mean that they can dodge in any circumstance where they make a mistake, or just to juke you during a fight or get back into cover fast. Everyone knows of this capability.
Titans & Warlocks don't have that same utility, except using shoulder charge as a movement tactic, but is not as effective as dodge. Or using Icarus Dash on a warlock, which binds you to a subclass. Note that Hunter dodge is available on all Hunter subclasses. Icarus is only on one and shoulder charge is available on limited subclasses for titan. With a couple very specific builds, which rely on exotics or very specific builds, titans and warlocks can get their class abilities back very quickly as well. However, we all know that those abilities rely on the player to be stationary or to extend cover/block a revive. It's not a "movement" class ability.
To be clear, I don't want to take away dodge or propose any reduction in the time it takes to get dodge, although that would be nice. Here's what I feel are the two big issues with Hunter dodge, and why it needs a nerf:
- Near invincibility while dodging; at least seems to not take much damage at all during the dodge in my experience
- Weapons can be fired/instant ready in dodge and/or jump abilities are immediately available after dodge
What this means is that anytime you have a hunter dead-to-rights because you made the right play, they can roll away, and yet while still in the animation (because of net code, lag, whatever..), they are able to shoot you while rolling even while you are shooting them with a primary or shotgun. Ask yourself how many times are you faced with a Hunter who dodges and then you feel like you are dead while they are still rolling? I bet if you think about it, it happens more times than not.
Secondly, while dodging maybe it's not me tracking very well (on console), but I know certain weapons have killed a Hunter while they are just getting into their dodge. But there seems to be a tiny window (again, probably network stuff), where if you don't do damage to them, they will complete the animation while somewhat "invincible" and then able to reposition and get the advantage, although they should be dead.
I don't feel like these encounters don't really happen for Hunters facing Titans or Warlocks, or the other classes facing each other (T vs T, T vs W, or W vs W). But I could be wrong, and if I am, please make the case. I'm open to hear it.
So my proposal...make the Hunter dodge even more of a deliberate choice of when to use it, and not allow what seems like invincibility or instant weapon ready while dodging. Just like Titans and Warlocks have to be deliberate about when and where they use their class abilities, Hunters really don't have to be as strategic or deliberate with theirs. It's just whenever they are in trouble...dodge. It's just another movement option.
Therefore, add a timer to the hunter dodge that does not allow them to use anything else during the animation (weapons or other abilities) or for about 2 seconds after the animation completes.
And yes, I will admit I'm sick of having outplayed a hunter and should have them dead, only for the dodge to win.

Okay. Bad hunter. Bad. Bad. Hunter.
