Low FPS on High End PC

Heyo! Just looking for some Destiny tech support relating to my computer. For context I have: Nvidia 3080ti Ryzen 3600 16g ddr4 ram 1440p monitor When playing destiny I am struggling to get over 70fps in most 6 man activities and social spaces. I am also playing only on medium settings. I’ve tried every suggestion you can think of and have even factory reset my computer. I am out of ideas please help!

  • I've been stuck around 60fps in many activities with my 3080ti and 5800x3d. 64gb of ram myself and i run at 1440p as well. Not sure what's fully happening its only been getting worse so I will assume that it is mainly because of the game engine.

  • Thats not really a "high end" pc but yea the game has lower frames since they changed their engine. What helped me the most with frame issues was restarting the game and pc when it starts to feel "choppy". Seems to be a memory leak after playing for a while.

    • Try reinstalling drivers. Rollback driver's to the previous version if you've updated them. Check for thermal throttling. Check that your power settings are correct. Check your resolution, vsync, and render resolution. Make sure you're not CPU bottlenecked.

    • PC performance in this game has diminished significantly overtime. Back in forsaken I would get 120 fps on a GTX 960. Now I have a 2060 and can rarely meet that framerate, sometimes am way below it. For example in things like a raid I am usually around 60. It started getting bad in shadowkeep when they updated the lighting engine and it got way worse in beyond light.

      • Someone else had mentioned a fresh driver install, I would start with that. You may not be running on the latest update. Are you running wired (what I would recommend) or WiFi? If wired, I suggest CAT 6 or higher. I run CAT 8, but that is a bit of over kill. Are you running multiple monitors? If so there are a few things to consider. 1. What is the refresh rate of the second monitor? If say it is a 60hz and your primary is 144hz, your system may drop everything to the lower rate. 2. If you have a bunch of stuff open on second monitor, like discord to chat, google for DIM, Spotify for music, etc your 16mb of RAM may not be sufficient. 3. Be sure about which monitor is your primary and verify the settings in windows to make sure it matches what the monitor is capable of. One more thing, that may not affect frame rate too much, but with your rig, are you running HDMI or Display Port? I would suggest Display Port if you monitor supports it.

Make a clean install of your nvidia driver with DDU. I have a rtx 3070 with i7 9700k and get betwean 160-200fps on high settings on 1440p

      • Not sure how my 2070s and 9700k are dwarfing you. The games optimization has gotten goofy in the last year. I know that lighting change they made in beyond light changed a lot of things. Not sure I’d choose all the issues that created over the optimization tho

      • It's the game dude, not your computer. This has been going on for a long time. There's a lengthy thread about it in the help section. Lowering your settings won't help at all.

The port your GPU is in might have a frame cap on it. You can check if it is capped by installing evga's precision x1 software ( it works with any GPU). You download it and install it, then you have go to the section where it offers to cap your frame rate. It may help to turn the frame cap setting on and off( remember to press the apply change button for "on" and "off" respectively). Once you choose to either have your frames capped or uncapped, launch destiny 2 and see if it helps. BTW - I have a 3080 as well and tbh I recommend playing on low settings because it offers better fps and to me there really isn't a noticeable difference from ultra to low graphics settings. It all looks pretty similar, but the only difference is that when graphics are at ultra your GPU may start to coil whine more and obviously get way hotter. Just keep that in mind. Hopefully it works

        • I have 9900k with 3080 ti 64 ram 1440 monitor. All settings on high Barely go under 200 fps. Some activities 300fps. I used this guide to set up nvidia settings. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jZrnfWpENTo See if that video helps.

        • Only way you'd get more is with a 5800x or 5900x or 11700k-12900k
