Orb mods are highly unnecessary and will hurt the game more than help it.

These mods only further amplify an issue introduced with holders tbh. Nobody uses them because there is no room on armor to support the sheer energy cost and their inferiority over scav mods. It’s going to be the same here, nobody wants to remove finders since they are just too superior. If the mod worked for all guns then maybe but they will only work for specific elements which is even worse since MAX 2 guns will make orbs. Although the artefact change is good, it’s another 1 step forward and 2 steps back with the orb nerf…

    • They didn't make this change with the sole purpose of allowing exotics with no catalyst to create orbs, they specifically said that the new weapon crafting system [quote]will encourage you to use many different weapons and ask you to burn hard-earned Masterwork materials on a weapon that you may only be using for a few hours, just to generate Orbs.[/quote] So they didn't want people complaining about having to waste mats on weapons they wouldn't be using for that long. And this solution they came up with is still really bad. All they had to do was remove the requirement of creating orbs with weapons they expect players to only use for a few hours. Why not just come up with some other arbitrary requirement for the weapon system, maybe something like, i don't know, getting X number of kills.

    • “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” There is a healthy economy with enhancement cores, master working for super energy and taking charge builds, this also impacts explosive light weapons as a replacement for vorpal weapon. Putting in helmet slot also hurts energy economy of armor mods which ruins gameplay. Someone suggested utilizing ghost mod as an alternative. What will be the benefit of master working a weapon other than a kill track and a stat boost which barely buffs the gun? Masterworking has long been established as a way to get better gameplay performance as a reward for killing with that weapon and as build option. It makes no sense to gut that system with this change.

    • They should have just made all exotics create orbs, regardless of cat. Instead they made one of the major perks of masterworks obsolete and are making us waste a mod slot for it. Nobody asked for this. I don't understand why they would waste development time on something like this. One step forward and two steps back.

    • Weakening us further right when they want to introduce challenging opponents. I mean it’s been a long nerf train every since SK, when Bungie got full control of the game. Seems like they want to make their job easier at our expense. I’ll keep my money, thanks.

    • Yet ANOTHER nerf to supers! Gotta love Bungie taking away all the fun in the game. First the amount of super you get back from orbs in Shadowkeep, then the nerf to super regen from exotics, then the nerf to stasis supers in general, then the MASSIVE nerf to all supers. This game is no longer fun. Just feels like another generic shooter.

    • Gentlemen, let's face it, nobody here is going to cancel their reservation, we are going to swallow these changes and apparently there is another big change coming, we are going to accept it whether we like it more or less because next year this game will be over and the franchise will continue in the form of films and series, it is their way of telling us to go away for good.

      • Theirs only 4 ways this change this will not make destiny 2 a worse experience: ~Orbs mods can be socketed into the ghost shell. ~All Helm armor gains an additional mod like the aeons armor with the orb mod costing zero and not reducing the current number of possible mods to be equipped. ~Masterworked weapons can still generate orbs in addition to the orb mod system. ~Scrap the idea like Luke Smith's baby(sunsetting) we smothered before the abomination could be born.

      • This is Bungie causing a problem so they can fix it later and demand praise for it. They do it a lot. After seeing the new trailer showing Scorn in the DLC and then reading this TWAB I cancelled my Witch Queen order. Getting sick of this garbage.

          Why can't they have to tied to the master work armor like if have 1 or 2 or more armor and pick up orb of power with Masterwork armor on you get a certain increase percentage in energy (does not apply in Crucible)making it a mod ruins built crafting making your builds more limited🤔 1-1% 2-2% 3-2.5% 4-3% 5-3.5%

        • Please not this Bungie, find another solution to your Orb problem without detracting from the game experience. We have no space as it is for all your mods now you want to make Orbs compete?               They have consistently progressed in taking things away from players or making them weaker. They’re clever AF with their wording but it’s one bad idea after another imo.

            • Agree, this decision is perplexing.... I thinks it is a good thing to be able to produce orbs with exotics that have no catalyst. But with this "solution" even fewer weapons will have that ability, so it just makes the issue worse. I was so disappointed to hear this, that I am rethinking wether to get the new expansion or not.... The only way I could live with this is if they: 1. Make it work for all weapons of all damage types with 1 mod 2. Have it fill the first slot, so it doesn't take away the Ammo Finder slot The thing that really makes this bad, is that I heard that our supers will no longer tick up. They will require kills, so that sounds like orbs will be more important than ever. I don't understand how people who can obviously make a great game can come up with such a bad idea The ability to change element on armor though is great

                  • The change to orb generation is completely unnecessary. This is very reminiscent of sunsetting. We know how that turned out. A much easier fix.would be to allow masterworking of exotics. That way even exotics without catalysts can still generate orbs.
