Great idea, but I think that if it's not in the game by now, either bungie does not know how to implement/does not need to do it since apps like DIM do it already or the engine cannot handle it.

Edited by Xero: 1/26/2022 12:40:20 PMIf you're willing to wait 7+ years, sure. This video gives a good idea from the engine side of things of when Destiny was in the making. Even if you apply the "that was then, this is now" argument, it only further solidifies the point that it would take a longer time to just "get a new game engine". If the money was available, then we'd probably hear something. Otherwise, it's being dumped elsewhere, probably for investment. That could be anything, including "Matter".
Unless "Matter" turns out to be a new game engine vs a "new game" itself and we're looking at it all wrong. Don't forget that "NetEase, Inc. is a Chinese Internet technology company providing online services centered on content, community, communications, and commerce." Sure they partner with Activision Blizzard, but it's for getting those games over to their side of the world. I wouldn't be surprised if they're advising testing out engines over there before bringing it over here, or something. But I haven't been able to research much, so I don't know.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
