When seeing the hunter Acolyte it got me wondering. Why Acolyte, it feels as though they didn't have another option. Witch and knight are of comparable power level just different paths. I always thought Acolyte was before you would pick one of those paths.
Of course this is just my understanding, so if someone knows of lore that would provide concrete info regarding hive evolution please share!

Hive wizard- an acolyte that (only female, except for Nokris) must be able to use the mother jelly in order to produce a brood of hive. A unique evolution with strict pre-requisites. The wizard receives tithes from the knight, acolyte, and thrall. Hive knight- the elevation of an acolyte to a more powerful rank within the Hive hierarchy. The knight receives tithes from thrall and acolytes. Hive acolyte- an elevated thrall. Most named acolytes are supplicants of greater hive as weaponsmiths or ceremonial leaders. Acolytes are usually responsible for completing summoning rituals. So, acolytes, knights, and wizards are the most powerful hive that aren’t ascendant; thereby making them the best candidates to receive the light, since they wouldn’t be resurrected through the sword logic
