Something the Witness said when addressing the Traveler. I know many have speculated on what could be inside the Traveler. A common theory I’ve seen so far is that it’s just a ship for the real Gardener rather than being the Gardener itself.
Assuming the Witness isn’t the Winnower (which they might not be), there is no way of knowing what their motives are.
I wonder if perhaps the Witness oversaw both the Gardener and the Winnower in the game to make sure nobody breaks the rules(like the Gardener did) and the (still loyal) Winnower is helping the Witness restore the Game.
This line makes me think that there is something or someone inside the Traveler. Something the Witness wants. My new theory is that it’s some kind of secret that the Traveler is keeping from us. Something that proves the Gardener is wrong and make us question everything we think we know about it and ourselves.
I am not entirely sure about any of this and most of it was thought of as I was typing but I’d love to hear some thoughts on all of this.
Edit: my original was that the thing inside the Traveler was a machine that would restore the Garden Game. It has been disproven as it goes against the Winnower’s motives as portrayed in the Unveiling lore book.
I still stand by my theory that the Witness is the balance between the Gardener and the Winnower.
Another edit: something else the Witness said. “We have seen enough. Enough death. Enough life.” I believe the Witness has become impatient and dissatisfied with Humanity’s lack of progress in the bargain and thinks that the Gardener has officially lost the bet.

There has never been anything in the lore to suggest there is anything to balance between the two gods
