Destiny crashing because of memory leak(PC)

After a couple hours of playing it always crashes like this: Game screen freezes, sound continues, then D2 crashes and closes. It also crashes my browser and Discord when this happens and leaves weird anomalies on my desktop background (black cubes behind icons, like if the GPU driver collapsed or something). Every single day this happens at least twice, resulting in needing a PC restart. No crashlog either. I kept monitoring my PC eversince this started, temperature always at nominal levels between 50-65C and RAM usage 10.2 GB out of 16 GB, even tho my system says there is still ~ 5GB free memory available, i feel like its not true, the more I leave destiny running the more memory it takes up, sometimes 7-8 GB. I have a feeling that this either occurs because it eats up all the RAM or VRAM available in my system, because the drivers are up-to-date and i can run anything graphically demanding after this crash happens. This never happened before the WQ dlc launch and I have changed nothing on my PC, belive me i would know if it was a problem on my end, I keep tabs on my PC's health on a regular basis and this sort of stuff only happens when running Destiny. Last time the game crashed and I restarted my PC then launched D2 again, the game started a weird Verification process of some sort that I have never met with during 3 years of my playtime, ill have the screenshot linked. It took about 15 minutes to verify and then the game started as usual, its weird because I already verifyed the gamefiles just a couple days before via Steam. Idk guys what to tell you, Destiny been feeling horrible lately as far as performance ,with FPS drops during any menu interaction, constant error codes of all sort (getting bee error nowadays). Lack of FPS in crucible and crashes every 2-3 hours or so. PC Specs in case anyone cares about this problem: GTX 1660 Super 6GB 16 GB RAM (health checked) AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6core 12 logical processors(threads) Its not a NASA machine but its more than enough for running this game. I know last reset we got a hotfix that focused on fixing some of this performance issue but man it wasn't enough, I could live with 15FPS menu drops if only my game would be stable enough to run for hours.

  • Yep this is 100% fact. The game has a VRAM LEAK somehow, somewhere. After playing the game for about 3-4 hours my Vram usage will crawl up to about 95% usage of it's max (I use a hardware monitor program, AIDA64) (Using an rtx 2060 Super, which has about ~6GB of vram) Freshly starting the game and loading into a random activity will show a Vram usage of about 40-50%, which is normal for my system. However it seems that the game is not recycling/offloading items that don't need to be in the Vram anymore, instead of that it seems to keep stuff loaded into the Vram which isn't supposed to be there which in turn will make it so that after a couple hours of playing, the Vram is simply FULL with trash data that the game is NOT using, which results into a CRASH to desktop after a while. This is not a unique bug, I have encountered it in multiple games across many years. And in each and every one of them the developers pushed a fix rather sooner then later cause Vram leaks/issues make a game unplayable. It's beyond me how bungie MISSED this, as there are litterly thousands upon THOUSANDS of PC player reports of this VRAM LEAK ever since The Witch Queen got released. Fix your wonkie -blam!- game bungie, you owe it to us after we have paid over 200 bucks for all those dam season passes and dlc's.
