I have just noticed and heard from other people that the Thunderclap melee resorts to a normal uncharged melee when enemies are close, even when you separate your inputs for charged vs uncharged melee. Just wondering if this is on the radar to be able to activate Thunderclap more consistently when enemies are closer to you.

I've found success by turning away from my target when starting the melee, and then turning to face them while it charges.

Edited by ScribeTheMad: 9/1/2022 6:40:01 PMEven if you unbind uncharged melee entirely it still does it, completely ruins the melee. I just don't understand the logic to building an uncharged melee *into* a charged melee, defeats the entire point of having them be separate keybinds. Edit, spelling.

You're complaining about this in the wrong place, someone posted about this on reddit and got a reply from Cosmo that it's been added to known issues. Reddit

Bungie said this a while back:
Melee attacks trigger as soon as the button is pressed, not when it’s released. Melee attacks don’t wait to see if you’re still holding the button before starting. This means you can’t set any of the melee actions to a long-press or double-press input. yeah, this is rather annoying.

As a short-term workaround, looking directly up or down when attempting to activate it will allow you to avoid magnet-punching a nearby enemy.
