This definitely happens more and more often now. It was rare in Beyond Light, but has become more frequent since Witch Queen amd this season is way worse.
Before, the game would have the odd stutter or mini freeze like 15-20 mins before it completely bugged out. So at least I could finish up w/e I was doing, exit the game, then relaunch. But now, it's just sudden and happens often. This would happen across all my devices and isn't specific to any one.

Yep, it's definitely becoming a much more common occurrence. It feels like any session over 2 hours is pushing it, unless I'm doing a slower activity like a raid or something. But if I want to grind out some Vanguard Ops, the frequent back-and-forth action from one activity to the next seems to expedite the crashing. My apologies go out to the blueberries I was carrying through the Nightfall last night, who had to face Navota by themselves after I crashed before the boss room. :(
