The main issue I have is that not only do you have to get a red border but you have to PRAY the pattern is extractable. Every red border should be able to extract a pattern

You also have to pray it's not something you already have. Immediately after receiving the scout from spider (guaranteed), I was finally at 5/5 and able to craft the Scout, I received a red border scout rifle from a rank-up engram in the Starchart. Totally useless duplicate. If it had been ANY of the other 5 weapons it would have been progress at least.
