Why does controller aim move slower when looking up/down compared to left/right?

This has always bothered me, and I wonder if it is a major reason why aerial play has historically been so effective. It just doesn't make sense to me. And before you say anything, know that this occurs regardless of sensitivity settings. Vertical aim speed is ALWAYS slower than horizontal aim speed for controllers. Plenty of instances where something like a hunter will simply double jump straight up, and the jump speed is so fast that moving the aim stick up at max input simply is not enough to stay on target - especially while ADS because the reticle friction slows your aim speed even more. Feels bad. Is this one of the reasons some players wanted a nerf to aerial play in the first place? Because it certainly feels bad to be mechanically limited to be unable to look up fast enough to track vertical moving players with as fast as it can be now.

  • I think it’s because most shooters play with only the level playing field, and it makes that kind of aiming easier my making the less used axis harder to accidentally overshoot on. That’s a bad way of wording it but I’m bad at language anyway
