D3 will not fix what people want to be fixed. The engine is here to stay for the foreseeable future because it's what makes Destiny's gameplay feel as smooth as it does. These are Bungie's words. As such, true dedicated servers aren't possible as they don't work with the engine. Also Bungie's words. They tried to reset the loot grind through sunsetting but everyone (including myself) wanted that concept gone. The game is over 5 years old and the franchise is over 8 years old. At the risk of repeating what's already been said, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who plays this game with any amount of regularity is just experiencing franchise fatigue. A third installment will not change that.

  • Destiny only “feels smooth” because of an immense amount of auto aim, not because of their unrepeatable garbage engine…..

The game engine has nothing to do with the game's ability to use dedicated servers. That is pure networking and it simply boils down to Bungie not wanting to make the investment into it. Server handoff has been around for decades. When you are on the loading screen, players could easily be handed off to servers dedicated to pvp. You wouldn't even know it was happening. You're right...it's not going to happen, but it's not because of the game engine.

  • Do you have experience in coding? If so, I'll take your word for it. If not, agree to disagree.

  • Yes, I do. I heard Bungie's explanation and I think they were being intentionally vague. The game engine itself is not what's keeping them from doing this. It's because the networking is currently based on P2P framework that would have to be re-worked to use dedi's. Not a ginormous undertaking on the coding side, but one that still boils down to time and lots of money (money being the biggest part). Setting up dedicated server farms around the world isn't cheap, nor is maintaining them. Bungie isn't going to invest the amount required in either on this game, especially when it seems like all their main focus is on their new IP.
