If Control is your idea of “loose” SBMM…

… I would love to know what your idea of “strict” SBMM looks like. Currently, I’m playing people from no less than 4 continents in one lobby. This isn’t acceptable. Connection quality is terrible and nothing works properly with this much lag and desync. I can’t believe you’re planning on ruining Iron Banner like you’ve ruined Control by adding SBMM.

  • Maybe I am an exception but it works very well for me. Sitting in Europe, don't know whether that makes any impact.

      Because almost nobody plays control anymore… I stopped playing it not because of SBMM but because the matchmaking was too long (at least in my experience). Literally I was spending approx 5 or more minutes in orbit while the matchmaking was searching and searching 😂 for 12 players in my skill bracket. So for me… it was the freakishly long matchmaking time that made me not play this game mode anymore as it’s a humongous waste of time… I suspect… that many people quit this game mode because of the same reason… whereas, others quit because of several other reasons… like poor lobby balancing (if any), laggy games (specifically in crossplay lobbies in medium to high skill brackets) or too sweaty games in laggy lobbies in consecutive games, etc. I am sure you could add few more reasons to the list.

      • I've said it since 2019 season of the drifter. SBMM killed everyones desire to play pvp back then. They removed sbmm and surprise, people enjoyed pvp again. Bungie is just constantly doing the exact same mistakes they already did 20 times before. D2 is a casual pve looter shooter. With a tiny pvp portion. An abandoned pvp portion. With opt in crossplay. Running on peer to peer. Cheese ability spam and op exotic outliers everywhere. What made them think "hey that's the right circumstances to turn the only casual playlist thats left in this mess of a game into a tournament aswell. These devs are SO out of touch, it's not even funny. Call of duty is bearable with sbmm. That game actually uses loose sbmm. AND cod uses dedicated servers and doesn't have cheese ability trash everywhere. D2 on the other hand? Straight strict SBMM theres no doubt at all. And they sell it as loose. LOL. I have players from africa, australia, china and NA in my lobbies while im in EU. Queue times are longer than my way home from work (50 miles btw), sweaty tournaments every single round. Nice casual QUICKPLAY btw Bungie. God awful this company.

      • SBMM doesn't work with a low population because they either loosen the constraints or you sit in queue for an hour. Hopefully this is enough to kill SBMM. Fingers crossed.

      • I mean it's not really strict skill based matchmaking. It's more forced wins and losses and it matches people with higher and lower skill ratings. I'd call it Bungies Skill Rating Matchmaking. It's to get bad players and casuals the illusion they are getting better so they buy more Silver and DLCs.

      • Man, I wonder how their strict sbmm will work in the comp revamp. There's nothing worse than losing because of ghost bullets and whiffed melees.
