• Even tho at first glance these numbers seem to be neglectable, you have to look further into it. Charlemagne even shows where players play the game and across all platforms theres an average of 13% players playing crucible (not counting trials or private) on each of the platforms. And if you dig even deeper its the players coming from epic games that play the story or patrol the most, so in majority the new light players, which makes sense because what you also have to keep in mind is that whenever your not in a specific activity or on the tower/helm, its counted as patrol. So no wonder that patrol and story have the most amount of players playing it. Now the problem here is that as @Seiryoku already stated, the people coming back every day, the ones that play destiny even in its dryest state are the fans, the hardcore players. And of them i can pretty confidently say at least 40% would consider themselves a PvP main, not saying theyre not playing PvE aswell. And then again the problems were facing regarding PvP is not just a problem for the PvP players, but for the game in general. Sure, ive seen many say they dont even notice any change, but then why are you so much for that change if your best argument is that its not noticable? If it really wasnt noticable, noone would complain, but the players actually caring about the game and its state as a whole seem to all suffer from these changes, not particulary by having a harder time stomping others in PvP, but by having a big fun and skill factor removed from the game, something that was worth putting your time in and getting good at. Yes it might be true that Bungie gives PvP more attention than the rest of the game, but theyre not giving attention to the players and thats the problem. They can adress PvP as much and often as they want, but if theyre just coming up with more and more random, not fully tested and nonsensical changes that more often that not dont even work as intended and not listening to the player base that plays their game and even worse lying to them about the changes, than its really heartbreaking what direction the game we all came to love and loved to play is headed as a whole. And thats the main problem right now

  • You say 10% like it's a small number when it's the second most played activity in the entire game. Also it's actually 13% overall.

  • You don’t know how to read statistic charts and it’s a bit embarrassing. The chart you linked isn’t based on individual activity. It factors in the same player for multiple activities. Saying only “10%” of people play pvp is just blatantly false statistics. Way more than 10% of players play pvp, however only 10% of them are split amount other playlist. That’s more of an accurate statistic. There’s a reason pvp is the second most played activity. Destiny, since release, has thrived from pvp and you need to look no further than all community content to prove it. It’s all almost exclusively pvp. The biggest youtube channels, the biggest twitch streams, the biggest twitter accounts, the most shared builds, etc is all for pvp. It’s not only a huge part of the game, it’s arguably one of the biggest, even based on the statistics you linked. If you disagree then you’re being blatantly disingenuous.

  • The fact that in a game with as many different activities as D2 13% of people are playing PvP at any given time means it absolutely is significant.

  • Okay, so which modes are significant and worthy of Bungie's attention then, since all of them bar Patrol have a lower player count than PvP?

I can’t even take your opinions seriously, there’s no way you’re actually this dense right? PvP is the main reason this game is even still talked about anymore, wanna know why that is? Because it’s incredibly fun, satisfying, and hilarious to play with friends. Solo play now for PVP though is pretty much unplayable, which is why you have those statistics that you claim are “undeniable” (even though you read the stats wrong and only got it from one source but I digress) You should go look into how many players played trials when the adept slug came out for the first time. I bet you couldn’t even begin to try and match that number to a PvE activity’s first day (besides MAYBE VoTD. WQ doesn’t count since it’s technically both a PvP and PvE DLC.) PvP has kept D2 alive and pumping from the start jusy the same that PvE has, because when people get bored of endless shooting, speed running strikes and flawlessing raids and dungeons; they go into PvP and shoot some guardians with guns and do space magic. PvE and PvP go hand in hand in this game too, since about 65% of the perks for some weapons in this game; are almost completely PvP oriented (Austringer for example)

  • Except you could make that argument about literally any other activity in the game. Strikes aren't significant because 90% of the playerbase aren't playing them. Raids aren't significant because 90% of the playerbase aren't playing them. Dungeons aren't significant because 95% of the playerbase aren't playing them. The mental gymnastics here are astounding.

  • If Bungie followed this idiots words they ought to remove any and all mention of crucible from the game. Literally all of it. Remove invading from Gambit or out right remove Gambit due to it's connection to pvp overall.

Right. It's wild. Making every effort to avert their attention from the truth, but your "grasping at straws". People are literally forced to play PvE, including the pvp people, but the pvpers choose to play pvp, even when it's in shambles.

  • I agree with your sentiments here, and ofc the numbers do not require agreement anyway. In contrast to OP, it feels to me Bungie talks about PVP like it is more important/dominant than it really is. Just read the TWABs, so much chatter about matchmaking and Airborne Effectiveness.. one of which never changes in a meaningful way, and the other is so unimportant I often forget it's a stat now. It's dominant on YT and Twitch, and Bungie has always chosen to interact more with high profile PVP players. Plus since most PVE content is old, completely canned, and scripted w/zero variables, there's not much to talk about.

  • How ever large that percentage of people at any given time, they are the ones logging on when there's no content. They keep their clans going. They populate BOTH aspects of the game throughout the entire season.

That's by design. Fomo and weekly triumphs require people to log in for bright dust. PvP players also are forced to play PvE. But it's not my PvE friends that get on and stay on. They do their task and get off. Or they grind for something in specific, continuously, till they acquire it. Like a job. But the people wanting to log on of their own volition without any such incentive, of late, have been PvP players. But Crucible is in an awful state presently. Player population is a reflection of poor decisions being implemented all at once.
