The game has to have grind, because without it there is not a whole lot of reason to play the game.
The core playlsit of this game is utterly trash. Strikes, Gambit, Crucible are all lacking in replay value.
So Bungie has to keep you on the hamster wheel to create an artificial reason to keep playing.
Take away the grind, you take away any reason to play this game for more than couple hours a week.

Grind should be reasonable. If it's not, it's not grind, it's filler. You know just like in sitcom, when something happened during production, but they have to make 20 series because of contract. I mean it's OK do not have guarantee drop for loot. But at then don't do from 6 to 12 perks per slot in weapon. If we talk about raid/dungeon exotics drop. They could have some pointers, which will tell how high your chances are to get exotic (approximately of cause), I mean: time tour team wasted on raid or specific stage of raid (for better weapon roll and armor stat), how many teammates was revived, have you done stage challenge or not. I mean better run - better reward.

I honestly don't mind grind, when the grind supports the core playlist. I played years of World of Warcraft, especially the first 3 expansions and it was a grind, and at times tedious, but the grind always supported a bigger piece of the core playist. Right now the grind is just there to grind without any real reason behind it. And hell, even the grind is limited to "weekly grind caps" with this whole "we are researching and we'll get back to you next week with more grind" BS. Beyond that, the game has zero replay ability which means the grind feel hollow.
