Just thought of the right change to Witherhoard

The blight puddle should only form on a direct hit. Sure maybe only in pvp. It waaayy to easy to use oppressively in pvp. It should at least require some skill to proc it's most powerful feature. Thoughts?

  • Dont really see that in pvp anymore until bubble banner popped up.. I used it in my hunter with invis and found that people could literally stand in it for double maybe even triple the time and still live... for small indoor maps it’s good for control but clash 🙈💩🙈 2.5 seconds of standing in it should kill everyone, even over shield users.

  • Of course the balancing for pvp needed to be done in a way to cause collateral damage for the weapon in pve. Another Geomags

  • Better idea: reverse its nerf.

      • Witherhoard is only really a counter to void bubble titan. People will stop using it next reset.

        • I did the catalyst quest when it came out but if they would nerf it again then how would new light players or players who did not do it back then get their catalyst quest done ? Dont be selfish dude , not everyone plays crucible for a living ... By the way witherhoard is just fine and not overpowered like it used to be ... There are far worse things like one shot titan melees , fusions , stasis , overshields , invis , shotguns every freakin match instead of actual gunplay , skill and fun. This state of pvp is not fun and it has nothing to do with witherhoard.

        • I always see at least a few people on the forums complaining about witherhoard or jotunn, but personally, i very rarely see either of these two guns. And even at that, the only time i see witherhoard is generally an aggressive player using it with an smg. But in terms of just witherhoard on its own in pvp, i’ve never struggled against it before. While I have seen an influx of witherhoards in the last few days, but that’s because of the IB mode and it’s a good way to deal with people inside a bubble if they don’t notice they are standing in the blight pool.

            • nothing to change on witherhoard, is perfect now , if you think is oppressive in pvp is called skill issue

              • When Witherhoard 1st was released, before the nerf, it was lethal. Nowadays it’s nowhere near as strong in both PVE and PVP. I put Witherhoard in the same category as Jotunn. Both are no skill guns that can get cheesy kills. Both can be avoided/countered but are mostly used by PVP players who don’t have thumbs.

                • My thought is there are far too many things to balance before Witherhoard even comes up.

                  • This is a straight up bad take. Witherhoard’s identity is the puddle and in how it reacts to both environment and enemy alike. In trying to remove those properties, it changes the way the weapon works and just taking away its exotic properties. If you’re gonna remove the puddle blights then you effectively have to also provide an alternative to how the rounds work, their properties and how they interact with an enemy and solid collision, because just removing one of its functions and not providing an alternative just tells me you only are frustrated at its usage because of having difficulty at countering it.
And for the record, I’m not a PvP buff. I only use it in PvE and already have seen enough damage from what Nerfhoarders have done in the past.
As of now, any gl has oppressive traits so long as it can cover a wide-enough area, cause players to elementally detonate or force them out of an area. That’s what they are designed for after all. You counter it by not getting caught in the blight, learning how to move backwards or jump away to stop taking damage. If an enemy is using it to coat a zone or flag, counter it with a grenade to stall them or simply fight at a farther range to try and stop them. If you couldn’t win a gunfight simply because a single blight puddle forced you out of a zone, you’re just as likely to lose that zone if they used any other gl, and that’s more of an awareness/skill problem. Now, if it is especially oppressive when an entire team is using it, that’s simply because they are coordinating to use it like that. You’re not gonna win unless if you are coordinating with your own team after all. Teamshotting was an issue in Year 1 because it was simply effective at destroying stragglers and solo players and that makes sense. To this day, it still is an effective strategy because any coordinating team interacting with each other, buffing each other, and covering themselves will easily blow out pubs with ease. If you want to win a gunfight against multiple people, you have to use multiple people to better chances. That’s more of common sense than skill.

What the hell is the point of it then and why should it function entirely different in PvP? The entire purpose of it is zone control. Zone control isnt the problem. Control as a mode is what the problem is. This would make it useless in every other game mode.

                        • It is not oppression in PvP

                        • Disagree. All that will happen is players will switch grenade types. The game offers a lot of different grenades that have the same area-denial/zone-control effect.

I'm fine w that actually, or just let spikes ohk again... because they don't anymore. I use WH like I use a shotgun, it's really the best way... most players easily evade the hazard. If they did tune it this way, it would basically kill this weapon in PvP... not for me, but it would be abandoned. Or just reduce the hazard timer even lower... I'm on board.
