Bump for visibility and having the same exact issue...
Finally the GM power level is not 16billion and I cannot afford to LFG. *Sad guardian noises*

Signing into bungie.net via browser worked for me. It's just something with the app. The browser experience isn't quite as nice but it will let you join fireteams at least!!
