I am constantly deleting shards and prisms out of my inventory to get them out of the postmaster and reset vendor ranks. There just aren't enough uses for them.

Nail on the head. Give us a place to use them. Let me buy an special exotic engram for 3 ascendant shards that lets me pick the exotic it decodes into. I just have to run the correct daily lost sector on master or whatever hoops you want to complete the quest or whatever.
