So this will not happen. Because Bungie wants to build games with vibrant communities. A freelance mode for a game intended as team exercise event runs counter to that.

  • It's good that they want to encourage team play. I don't think that their vision of having fun team things would be hindered by giving someone like me, who can't schedule playing Destiny into my schedule, and would be able to play more often if I knew it wouldn't have to be fun a consecutive chunk of time, a viable way of being able to participate in the more-competitive content. I think that people who join as teams of three like that people join as solos, because it is an easier win for the team of three. I think a lot of teams of three would have a hard time going flawless if it weren't for the gimme matches against people who have joined alone. Their vision of fun team play would still be able to progress and happen in the normal playlist, while people who can't afford the time/don't have a doctorate degree in Destiny to find lfg teammates, can still have a way to participate in the higher-end content, and get the higher-tier loot. When the freelance list is removed, it kind of makes it a "rich-get-richer" situation, where the higher-end loot is only available to players who play the game in a certain way. I think the subset of people who can schedule games into their schedule, and play for long amounts of time, will be limited to people with less things going on in their lives. I would hope that Bungie would want to cater to people who have lots going on in their lives, and still be able to hop in, and not have some "glass ceiling," or whatever you want to call it, to at least have the higher-end content available. Joining as a team would still be a higher chance of winning than freelance anyway, so the incentives would naturally drive people to try to do the team content, while allowing people like me at least a viable way of participating, without being against career gamers. Joining as freelance, you have a large chance of having a new/working-on-it player, but everyone is subject to that same chance. The incentives still would drive people to play the team mode. If Bungie were to go to only team-based things, the people -blam!- play with teams would love it, but it would ostracize the part of their player base who, for whatever reason--whether the inability to find lfg people, to schedule the time, etc., can't regularly join with a team. Their game would only benefit from it. It will be interesting to see what they do.

  • See the thing is, Trials is the Destiny PvP raid. It’s not meant to be a solo experience. It was even marketed that way. SBMM is in comp, so u get a fair game there. Even quickplay currently. Ideally you learn in those modes and take your game to the pinnacle event. Trials is not for everyone. Whether that’s because you aren’t good enough yet or you don’t have the time. It’s for committed players with ability. It can be hard to take but it’s true.

  • To be fair personally I’m a life long nerd but I wasn’t very good at FPS or even interested in them until D2. And I was awful, but eventually I got to the point where I could carry people fairly easily and met loads of cool people along the way.

  • Nice. I've liked games for my whole life, too. I am at the point, though, where I cannot afford or schedule the time that I could before, because of other stuff I have going on in my life. If the game becomes that you cannot succeed or do well unless you can afford large amounts of time to put into the game, as people get busier in their lives, and have more going on--hopefully, people could outgrow Destiny. I don't want that to happen. Besides, joining up with random people is a good way to meet people. I have had several people on my friends list that I met because we joined into games randomly, and decided to add each other. That is cool you can carry people, and stuff, though. Destiny is awesome, I agree.

  • They did that when they made games they wanted to play. Subsequent changes in philosophy have created a desire to remove freelance modes hence FBMM.

  • Well it’s not what I want. It’s what Bungie has stated it is doing. I liked freelance comp, it got me into PvP. But sadly Bungie wants to remove it.

  • No it won’t. I played on Xbox consistently when we were getting no more that 30k players a week and still went flawless. Since Crossplay Trials has become really easy. Honestly, most PvP players see freelance weekend as easy mode and a chance to push up their overall KD.

  • Well yeah. I’d say playing 1000s of Trials games since season 10 is sufficient data. Going from a negative seasonal K/D to a 1.7 suggests that it’s pretty easy to improve and go Flawless.

  • But your experience isn't the same as other players who play as well, especially solo players. If you run stacked and face mostly solos, obviously your stats are going to improve. Till you run solo and experience that first hand, you can't say crap. I have run solo and improved to get flawless and I can tell you having a freelance Playlist should be a constant thing for solo players to have. Being steamrolled by stacked teams is derailing and doesn't make people wanna stay in it nor makes players improve.

  • I’m telling you I play with lots of PvP players and they all farm the solo Q because that’s where the negative KD players feel safe. It’s a farming Q. And I don’t play with the best players in the game. Just 1.5-2.0 players. And we all see freelance trials as a chance to farm.
