Thanks for killing this IB for solo players

Coming off the heels of the last IB, I didn't think it could get any worse. But congrats to Bungie for finding the handful of things that could. Last IB required players to use the most frustratingly defensive subclass combinations in order to get multipliers and pinnacles, and a lot of players made requests to have this IB challenges require the other two subclasses. But no, while the most overpowered aspects of the Void kits have been mostly dealt with, we're still required to use Void and Stasis in the most defense-based game mode we've seen for IB. Fun to still have to use the exact same thing for a second week in a row. More glaringly though, is the death of the Freelance playlist. With the desire to implement the "fireteam based matchmaking," now us solo players get to roll the dice on whether or not we're getting put into fair fights. And in my experience, this is beyond a rigged dice. The first game I played this week had two 4-stacks in it, followed up by a game with single 2-stack. Not too bad since it was relatively balanced. Game 3 gave me a 3- and 2-stack. How did team balancing go about this? It put the two stacks on the same team. How balanced. Games 4 and 5 were balanced fireteam-wise, with only a 2-stack in each. And then we get to game 6, with two 2-stacks. Surely this would be a decent game with each side getting a stack, right? Not to team balancing, as it put them together again. Great. So now, we're still on mostly the same old subclass meta, but now have to deal with a seemingly 50/50 chance of a fair game while Bungie tests out a likely-to-fail matchmaking experiment. I don't understand how Bungie can look at their "week-long celebration of Crucible" in this state and think they're doing a good job with it. I'd be curious to see the percentage of games that ended with teams scoring fewer than 10 points, with how widespread game throwing for rep gains has become. Not that they'll publish that information ever, though. Just bring back Freelance until your "fireteam based matchmaking" is more fleshed out.

    • I will simply say that the system is working as intended so far as making sure solos will never play stacks larger than 3, so far for me. However lobby balancing as always is a massive problem. I have played games with one 2-3 stack in the game and even when they're on my team, we get flogged. People just don't play the objective. In my experience that doesn't change much whether you're in freelance or not BUT, freelance has always felt more reliable when chasing the 50 wins for the stupid title.

      • I've played through 1.5 resets solo and it's been fine. Yes the occasional mercy on either side but meh that's going to happen. The real issue is titan bubbles on the capture point tbh

          • This change is best for everyone. As a solo I never played freelance anyway as it’s mainly passive kd farmers. The normal playlist is fine and as a solo you’ll likely get matched with duos and singles anyway, maybe some 3’s. But I’m In you can watch the roster filling up and just leave before it finished filling up if a 4+ stack joins. Stop complaining.

              • I played two matches this morning before work. I didn't see a single fireteam but the team balancing is still so obviously skewed towards favoring one side it was painful to even force myself to play two matches. First match we were severely handicapped compared to the other team. Even had a deserter on our team. We only won because the obviously better team got -blam!- and made one big late game mistake that allowed us to win by the catchup mechanic. But only like 2 points. Second match didn't have any deserters that I remember but it was super obvious my team was the powerhouse this time and our score proves it. The players we were matched against must've been first time players because these guys were sitting ducks the entire match. Not sure what they did to the scoring mechanic but that game felt like it would have been an easy mercy in the first banner this season. All in all, this experiment is a 5/10 for me because, while I didn't see a fireteam in my two matches (not even an acceptable amount of test), it's painfully obvious the PvP team still doesn't understand basic lobby balancing. I just want the cape for my last hurrah before I dip out on Lightfall but what can ya do?

              • Counterpoint: I've been going into Iron Banner solo this week, and I have not seen any stacks. Saw one group of three, a couple of pairs on both sides, but most games were populated by solos. I get why they removed the solo queue, and FBMM seems to be working. MM times are good, teams are balanced, games are close, I have no complaints. Gilded the title last time, unlocked the shader yesterday, now I get to play on my terms running whatever I want. Not trying to be argumentative, just posting my experience, I believe you and others when they say they are having a less-than-awesome experience but there's probably lots of Guardians who are liking this just fine.

              • Odd, I did both days challenges. Had maybe 1 or 2 matches where we didn't do well. But MOST of my matches felt extremely balanced. Had multiple within 5 points, and it made the whole thing very fun. The biggest thing I am seeing is people not actually understanding that KILLS DONT MATTER except in regards to controlling an area. My first few matches this week I was running around and not actually playing zone control. I am not saying people aren't having issues, but for me, after how boring the last IB was, this is a lot of fun.

It's all the lag and bad spawn points. Nothing like capturing a zone to have the half the team spawn behind you! Then there the lag in the game with players teleporting around! It's a joke! Then the scoring system for iron larger is ridiculous!

              • I main 6v6 pvp solo... I went in with the clan and we didn’t even let the other team get 1 point on the board, demolished the next team and decided this 💩 is boring.. Left and went back in solo for the challenge.. Got beat few times and won a few times, I don’t understand people always wanting to play against solos.

                I am surprised we still hope this game will change for the better, when we all know Bungie is just not capable of that. The only constant in this game I have seen for years it that is getting worse every single time.

                  FBMM seems to be working but it does seem like a forced 50% win rate. Im garbage and I’m consistently coming out on top

                    • Nothing much was going to change pal. Didn't believe it would either. The drop rates are basically the same too. So we're now forced for the 2nd week in a row, to grind IB solidly in the small hope we'll get 1 armour piece. Not all of us want to or can spend hours a day doing this, its a shambles and a scam. I genuinely hate Bungies inability to listen to its community right now. They are spitting on us atm.

                    • Playing solo working on 3rd reset: occasional blowout but winning about 50% . I don’t see any serious problems with this Iron Banner iteration except the RNG armor manipulation.

                      • I have been solo queing the whole time, i reset one last night and going for my second reset and not ONCE have I been stacked with players that are more than 3 in a fireteam. It is pretty balanced in my opinion...

                        Im a solo player, I had a good time. Maybe its because Im a decent or above average player but I just played smart. Stayed near cover, never engaged more than 1-2 people and mostly played insanely safe to do well.

                        • Had like 4 or 5 games, first 2 complete dog crap, next 2 seemed better, then i just finished a match where around 2 players just seemingly start hacking and lagswitching... Had 1 player somehow dodge away, get full health, instant kill me with krait multiple times, and even acquire heavy without it showing on feed, and he was also around 1350 ish... If i used Krait, its crap, and im somehow always on red bar because for some reason everyone targets me and teammates are most of the time unhelpful or on the other side of the map while i get sandwiched between like 6 opponents... another player laggy teleported out of bullets, and was somehow able to instant kill me when i shouldnt of been on his screen and he also instant killed around three teammates next to me, in like 5 seconds... Server connection is jank, and i encounter BS like this every now and then, never encountered anything like i am now as often, if ever, in Freelance.. sorry to say, but Freelance was a far better experience in last Iron Banner in my opinion, only thing that was ruining it was the rep gains for ranks

                        • I hardly play PVP, but I'm enjoying it. I have not experienced lag so far. I made a mistake in the first match by trying to use Cerberus.

                          I’ve played 7 matches. First match I had the worst lag I’ve ever experienced in D2 PVP but I still had 21 kills and we won. That was today but tonight I played 6 more matches and everything is normal. Some lag but not ridiculous, wait times are the same and I think I’ve won more matches than I’ve lost. So overall it’s the same for me as a solo player. It’s a small sample and I’ll add as I go this week.
