Literally everybody has similar utility if you want to really get into the semantics. It’s all about how it plays and depending on how Berserker goes it might have more of a focus on melee, hopefully. Since that’s just not really a thing in the other classes at the end of the day. The closest it gets is Sunbreakers functionally speaking.

  • This is just not true..? It’s not just “semantics;” the only utility overlap between Sunbreaker and Berserker that we know of is the ability to melee a lot. How does one proc a damage boost (radiant) or healing (restoration) through the subclass on Berserker? Hammer of Sol and Bladefury are radically different from one another. Sunbreaker has pitiful mobility for the most part. Can you not see the incredibly similar utility of suspend and freeze? I could keep going on.

    I tbink you’re completely missing the point of me bringing up the Sunbreaker as an example of it being currently the only good subclass for melee and that it would be nice if berserkers also have a strong application of it. There was no comparison of their mechanics lmao. Or the point that many subclasses have an incredible amount of overlap and that it’s all about how it actually plays out. Similar mechanics are common and the only thing that really matters is how the subclasses are actually played, not their mechanical overlaps.

  • First, your latter statement feels vacant and overgeneralizing when you don’t provide nearly enough good examples to satisfy your claim that “many subclasses” overlap. You say that Sunbreaker is the closest in functionality when, by your own logic, you can’t say that without knowing how Berserker feels and/or plays. For all you know, Berserker could be yet another unviable melee class. If you’re more skeptical and need to play it first, fair enough; but, don’t be logically inconsistent and compare Berserker to other things when you say yourself that we don’t know how it will play. Second, my comparison was primarily conceptual from the start. You’re the one who turned it into a measure of viability, which makes you the one who is missing the point. I don’t particularly care if Berserker is a meta or even high-tier melee class, I just want it to feel and look like it’s not riffing off another subclass. I think there’s enough “conceptual data” to reasonably express the sentiment that Berserker and Behemoth look extremely similar and do extremely similar things, as I have already pointed out. I’ll leave you with this: even if Berserker and Behemoth end up playing significantly differently (which I don’t count on, but would love to be wrong about), their look is remarkably similar. Imagine if Strand Hunter’s super used a section staff instead of a rope dart. Sure, a Strand section staff could perform all of the attacks that the Strand rope dart can, but it would look incredibly similar to Arc Staff. I think that it would be a valid critique on behalf of the art direction to say that the Strand section staff looks too similar to Arc Staff. I feel exactly the same about Berserker and Behemoth. One has a gauntlet with a blade on it, the other has a gauntlet with spiky ice on it.
