Currently the only way threadlings are able to synergize with mods is if you throw the grenade, no other threadling source synergizes with the buildcrafting system. This is especially bad for warlocks since our whole subclass pretty much revolves around the lil guys and there's no way to make them work with mods as even consuming the grenade makes them no longer count as grenade damage. All I want is for em' to synergize with mods in some way.
edit: needlestorm threadlings may count towards mods like power preservation but i have not tested that

Might be a little unfair to hunters and titans who don’t have the same options with threadlings.

Warlock is build around unravel and threadlings. And unravel is better than jolt and scorch in my opinion.

I just run a suspend build with necrotic grips. Fun, but not really an end game type build.

I think that using the Threadling Grenade is a bit of a false economy, if that's the right way of saying it. Using Grapple extra movement option and spamming the Grapple-melee that spawns 3 Threadlings has been much more effective for me. It synergises with Grenade mods, has a lower base cooldown and does excellent damage. To me, Grapple-melee plus 3 Threadlings is a much better option than 5 Threadlings. Now that we have the extra Fragments and have had time to get Strand guns with Hatchling on them, I'm very happy with how my build looks. Happy to share the details, if you'd like! All that said, my point revolves around wanting to use Grapple, so I fully understand that the Threadling Grenade shouldn't be ignored to the detriment of the people who want to use it.

Not every threadling stems from grenades and thus not every threadling should count as grenade damage. But what does need fixing is that a consumed threadling grenade, and the perched threadlings it generates, are not counted as grenade damage, and that needs fixing. Among other things that need to be fixed with threadlings, as they're currently just flat-out non-viable. They deal way too little damage, over way too small an AoE, and they have a tendency to blow up on dead targets, thus wasting all their value.

I think both Strand and Stasis needs better synergy with the mod system.
