The main gimmick of Star Allies is your ability to befriend enemies, and then have those enemies infuse your non-elemental copy abilities with elements. This applies to Susie as well, and she can swap between various elements as long as she can find a buddy to give them to her. The catch is bosses get more HP for every Ally, so we also want to get rid of them whenever we can. My favorite part of the run was routing out when & where I could swap elements to save the most time. Right off the bat, we grab wind to activate an elevator, then 2 seconds later we swap it for water because wind sucks. We keep water all throughout Level 1 to deal with Whispy and Dedede, but for Level 2 we want to switch to fire to deal with Meta Knight. But oh goodie, lucky us, there is a fire dude right on our path! Sweet! Fast forward two rooms, we are now Sizzle Susie (that’s fire!), and we have this big room full of fire logs, and getting through them is tough. We make it, but we lose a lot of health, and now we have this big mean sawblade room, where the sawblades move so slow, and we move so fast, and wind up running into them, dying, losing precious seconds on the room, and losing fire to boot! No big deal, there’s another fire dude right before Meta Knight’s boss room, but this is a big time loss, and it keeps happening! So I paused for a bit, and thought about how to fix this issue, and then I realized; there’s a fire dude right outside Meta Knight’s boss room, and I’m going for him every time after I die anyway, so what if I just, like, kept water for the fire log room? And I did! I busted out Susie’s mech, and used it to plow straight through all the fire blocks, and it was very satisfying. It saved me time on that room, not needing to dodge the fire blocks, it saved me time on the sawblades ‘cause I had health to get through them now, and it saved me time on Meta Knight because there was an Attack Boost behind a fire block! This was my favorite time save. Routing is really fun!
