It’s okay at best. My problem with it is that it took the stereotypical Metallica style and turned it into a full blown album.
While it is nice to have some new music from them, it just doesn’t hit like some of their other albums. There weren’t as many “killer” riffs and solos, and the lyrics were lacking.
I understand that inspiration is hard to come by, but there were so many things about 72 Seasons that could have been improved.

I’d like to see these guys branch out and work on some other projects. The last few albums have been lackluster. Hardwired and Death Magnetic had a few good moments, but nothing that really grabbed me. It feels like they’re just going through the motions at this point.

I see all your points, and raise you a "I just think it's neat" Your move.

72 S feels like Hardwired’s tone and pseudo-thrash meets Load and ReLoad’s hardrock. It leaves much to be desired, especially considering I felt that there wasn’t any “Spit out the bone” moment on the album. The lyric content tho is great and is defo the most introspective album. Album barely gets a pass for me considering it was made (I think) during lockdown, but I’m willing to be that this is what the rest of the band’s albums will sound/feel like. I get that this isn’t the 80s and James, Lars, Rob, and Kirk are much more mature than back then and good for them to establish a much more sustainable lifestyle/relationship with the band and themselves, but I’m willing to bet that this is probably the final nail in the coffin for any hopes of “thrash” style of songs. Bit of a shame since they can still write good thrash style songs points to death magnetic, but oh well I guess I can get my fix from Anthrax or any of the 2000s thrash revival bands. It all kinda blends together after a certain point. I really enjoyed inamorata because of the short bass break, but besides that it felt like an hour long song.
