If Bungie turns this around, it only shows upper management that they can pull this stunt again and succeed. In order to set the standard, Bungie needs to fail tremendously. If you pay into this, its your choice. However, you are funding these awful practices.

  • "8% layoffs are bad. That's why we need EVERYONE to lose their jobs." LOL

  • It’s not my responsibility to take care of the devs. Nor is it my responsibility to give them jobs, to pay their bills, etc. Unethical business practices can only be remediated with bankruptcy. Then, other companies learn to never do that. You cannot give them any sort of slack. And if you believe the devs lost their jobs because we didnt buy their crappy content, then youre already drowning in the corporate koolaid. The devs lost their jobs ti unethical business practices. Youre a fool if you think consumers are anywhere possible to blame for it.

  • I didn't say it was your responsibility. I didn't say it was player's fault. I'm saying your extreme answer doesn't reflect well, if you're upset that people lost their jobs. I thought Lightfall was badass and I liked watching the story unfold thru the year so far. What I want is for them to learn, so they can make the rest of y'all happy, and keep making cool games. I don't want them to all get fired wtf would that do for anyone? If you're convinced everybody has to lose to "teach the industry a lesson" you vastly overestimate what competitors going bankrupt does to market power imo

  • If youd like, I can give you a substantial, comprehensive list of companies that implemented unethical business practices, then show a consequential response from competitors immediately afterwards. And for bonus points, even tell you what laws, regulations, and agencies were inspired because of such insidious workplaces. You may want them “to do better” and have toxic optimism, but that will only perpetuate the problem. Should they recover their reputation, theyll just burn the bridge again in the next couple years. Rinse and repeat. They said so themselves. Trust leads to retention, which leads to revenue. It is their business model to earn your trust, milk it dry, break it, then do it all over again. The entire time, the devs pay the price. No company should be allowed to get away with this as many times as Bungie has. Nor should they ever disregard their people inhumanely. They need to be held accountable and set the standard for what happens when you do such practices.

  • What is insidious about bungie's workplace? That's not really what's at stake here, right? If you're talking about laying people off, again, how does everyone losing their job teach anyone that layoffs are unacceptable? How do you criminalize layoffs? I do agree workplace legislature is important. Even more important: unions. Wonder how you feel about that. How is "doing better" going to "perpetuate the problem?" Doing better means... not having the problem. If my optimism was the problem, how is it that the community sentiment tanks deeper and deeper every year? I was optimistic the whole time. Lol. I don't wish for any group of a thousand people to lose their jobs because I felt personally slighted by their game and entitled to something else. I simply leave when that's the case. In the market world they are being held accountable. They're spending a lot and not meeting their projections. If the product they envision cannot capture an appropriate audience and revenue response, then Destiny is over. Funny thing is I think this community has been just about as negative throughout its whole lifetime, with a few temporarily brighter points, which usually only serve more misery afterward. It never got to this point, though, which, to me, proves it was never all that severe. Until now. The Destiny death-cult of philistine misers like you is and has been so loud so often. You think "maybe not everyone needs to be fired" is a "toxic" statement. I do not know how to help you. Go take a walk in the sun, try some new hobbies, see your friends, and lighten up. That's my best advice.

  • I could be here all day debating ethics. It would take me a month just to scratch the surface of laws and practices that businesses have to abide by in the US, then how they skirt around it. They remain legal but wholly unethical. I could answer each and every one your questions to the fullest extent possible. However, you would never be satisfied and you wouldnt change your stance. I appreciate your brilliant advice. But you neednt worry about what I do in my personal life, focus on whatever existence youve got instead.

  • Problem with your theory is that you need to get yours right every time Bungo forks up. For a anarchist theory to succeed it only needs to get it right once. Sooner or later, that'll happen.
