Tell that to all the companies who think SBMM is a good idea to "protect" the noobs and put them in their little bubble of never getting better.
Quick hint to the SBMM lovers, the companies don't actually try to help you or protect you or make your experience better. Their only intent is to make you stick with the game and spend money. Literally the only reason SBMM exists. Satisfy casuals with easy mode games against other noobs who will never get better to make them spend money on the game.
Implementing SBMM in games with a dying playerbase results in excessively long queue times, extremely laggy matchups and unplayably boring games. Every match feels and plays the exact same because you technically play against yourself. But hey, atleast the noobs who will never get better with SBMM and the Bungie investors are happy :)

Ever since SBMM the lobbies seem usually fair and equal, a good fight so to stay, people just wanna stomp on noobs all day and call themselves good lol

By "getting better", you mean watching an Aztecross video and copying his meta loadout and build?
