It doesn't give bonus melee range. Instead it gives bonus reload and handling.

So they reworked the exotic. It seems very generic to me what they did. The lack of innovation and ideas is noticeable.

I say it's an upgrade. The bonus reload and handling is great for sluggish weapons. Understand that bungie no longer wants differential melee ranges. It could have been like ophidians and have its melee range removed with no extra benefits.

Arc hunters and titans still get lunge range increase from the sun class.

Definitely an upgrade, its ophidian but also has the dmg bonus while surrounded.

In pve it's an upgrade you use syntho with your charged ones which don't gain bonus lunge range while in pvp kinda a downgrade since the buggy desync that extra lunge causes makes you basically invincible and don't think anything can really be considered better than that.
