Overtime, you realize that build stats only make you 10% better. Many holes in your stat build can be overcome through subclass fragments, abilities and weapon perks. I haven never bothered to chase the perfect 3 x100s. The meta changes every time and is exhausting to follow. Newbies have no problem with the stat builds. Sure new lights start with sub 40 gear, but they'll eventually get into 60+ gear. It doesnt take as long as you think. The struggle is what engages the players to learn the system.

I have suggested new systems for New Lights in another post. But they have to play long enough to make that assessment. Often in a world populated with people that don't want to do the same activities they are required to do to catch up. It might not take long in the grand scheme, but that lack of an engaging on boarding experience means they may never know how much better it feels with right stats and abilities. And even spread builds play differently that spiked stats. Yes, aspects, exotics, fragments, perks can make up for lack, but those have to be earned while it feels like -blam!- to play. Some of the lowest preforming people have horrible set ups and are convinced everyone is cheating. They don't even know what a targeting adjuster mod is.. Mmorpgs have a tutorial island. They produce or provide the gear to leave you ready to get into the meat and potatoes. Destiny gets you going, but offers little direction. Some quests and bounties throw you into things you're completely ill-equipped for as a New Light. Most never Raid or enjoy Crucible. They certainly aren't doing GMs or Trials.
