•
Well there goes that. And that stuff sounds like its basically required to play the game.
It’s not. At all. I haven’t spent a single penny on the game besides the starter edition on sale and yet me and my buddies have everything we could possibly want in the game.

  • You can earn everything in game, anything you buy is just to skip playing. You can either grind and earn everything, pay to speed bits up by buying parts you need but grinding the rest or by just buying everything like OP suggests and removing the entire game for yourself.

  • I haven't looked at it for myself but a lot of games like that seem set up with kind of a slippery slope aspect to it so that some people end up spending way more than they would have otherwise. And having it tied to in game progression seems like it could get out of hand with the prices OP was mentioning. It all really depends on how much you can do by grinding the game and if people doing that can really feel as satisfied as the people doing it the other way.

Just stacking boxes in the back of a guy’s Reclaimer will earn you enough to buy any ship you want. Plus people in chat will just give you money if you ask lol.

  • People in chat giving away money? Come on man. That's probably part of the ad expenditures. I have an idea.

People like me who’ve bought all the ships in the game they want (with in-game money, mind you) have nothing to do but give their money away. Someone gave me 2 million aUEC because I asked how much a Vulture was. Then someone gave me 4.5 million aUEC because I said “jinx buy me a Reclaimer” when we typed the same thing in chat. That’s not even counting all the other millions people have given me for doing them even the most minor of favors. So when someone’s new to the game and they ask Global Chat how much a ship is, I tell them, “this much”, and point them to Lorville or A18.

  • Sounds like a lot of people are enjoying that. But what happens when people keep showing up wanting free money a year from now?

  •
Sounds like a lot of people are enjoying that. But what happens when people keep showing up wanting free money a year from now?
Then people will be there to give out credits. It’s a common practice in the game to help other people. Some of my friends I’ve made from SC and purely just buying people ships for the fun of making their day.

I’ll have more credits, and there’ll be more people with even more credits looking for a new home.

  • Ops prices are basically getting everything, you can skip to the best stuff in the game for far less and in most cases you wont be spending anything until much later in the game, having people to play with also makes everything faster and you wont actually need to spend anything.

  • Sounds like there could be pitfalls.

  • There always can be and the way its made is to have those pitfalls for the right kind of people to fall into (the whales) but for an average player the cost is basically nothing.

  • People like their things and everyone has an approach to paying that they prefer (for instance, "all over the place" and look what kind of people that attracts) but its just one of those things when you see a game built up like that and then the way its going to get paid for is just dropped on you. It just makes you think about how many times you're going to reach a point and paying will be the easier option to keep moving forward. And that's just an amount of intrusion that effects the game, regardless of whether you have to pay for it. That's why I like the approach of having the shop stuff kept in a shop. There's ways to do things like that and you never know until someone actually starts playing it. But in the past with some games once someone starts playing them it looks even worse than it does on paper so I take a wait and see attitude at the very least when it comes to this stuff.

  • The buy-in is never 48k at the Casino to start... you won't even know those rooms exist. They hide it from 99% of the players. And that's what Star Citizen is doing to avoid scrutiny and exposure. Hiding it. Because if you buy-in at any level you're a chump. How is your experience going to fare?
