I’m not a big Batman fan really, but I had a Batman bedspread when I was young based off of this one, so I must have liked it a lot. From what I remember it was a lot less serial in form (as in, it didn’t have much of a running plot beyond a few multi-part stories) compared to other shows at the time like Spider-Man, so it might not matter too much what order you watch other things. Marvel seemed to be more into that, with crossovers between Spider-Man, Hulk (and She-Hulk) and the X-Men series a few times iirc. I never watched any of the other DC shows or films so I have no idea about those. I did catch a few episodes of Batman Beyond though and I enjoyed it. I distinctly remember quite liking ‘The Batman’ series as well which came out quite a long time later, around 2007 or 8 I think. I assume you’ve heard of it and discounted it but thought I’d mention it just in case. Edit: okay according to Wikipedia The Batman started in 2004 so my internal clock must be way off lmao

  • I'm not that big of a Batman fan either, tbh. I like Batman enough that if you were to come up to me and say "Let's watch this Batman thing." I'd probably say sure (though which Batman thing we're talking about is a big factor--like the Killing Joke was rated R, I think, which makes it a big nope for me), but if you asked me "Have you seen (insert piece of Batman media here)", the answer is most likely no. I'm mostly interested in TAS because of a breakdown Overly Sarcastic Productions did on Batman's character, focusing mostly on TAS, and Batman Beyond, as they claim it's the best incarnation of Batman. They put forth a pretty good argument, and this version of Batman sounded pretty great, and I wanna see him (plus I just finished Ben 10 Alien Force, and haven't been able to get into my usual YouTubes lately, so I want something to watch). In line with that "Have you seen (insert piece of Batman media here)" bit, I actually have not heard of The Batman. Is it connected to TAS at all, do you know?

I did watch The Killing Joke the other year though, and I can safely say it’s kind of dumb so you definitely dodged a bullet imo. I think the main issue was that despite the controversial age rating it still felt very obviously like a feature length kids show, just with more ‘adult oriented’ themes and scenes thrown in which was jarring to say the least. Maybe if I was ‘into’ Batman more I wouldn’t have minded so much, but i wasn’t, so I did.

  • That's actually kinda funny that The Killing Joke felt like a kid's show still. I always find it hilarious when something tries to be "dark" and "mature", and then the writing is subpar compared to the original "childish" thing it was based on. :p
