It’s a US thing. Not a Bungie or millennial thing. Americans are super touchy and sensitive about these things, much more so than almost any other country in the world.

As a non-American who sees a lot of American news... I'd say it's both left and right. The gun-touting, heavily Christian right don't want you to say anything that could be offensive to them, and if you do as they have God on their side (and the NRA) they have every right to "defend" themselves (and God) by shooting you, because offending them is as good as offending God and the American Constitution. The snow-flake "it's all about equality" left want everyone to be calm and nice and peaceful, and if you offend them then you're clearly a right-sider and they'll create a law to make what you just said illegal... after they've taken away your guns and your God, because they're clearly trying to erode every Americans God-given right to freedom... and guns.

I mean conservatives just want to be left tf alone tbh. They just want to wake up, go to work, make some money, eat dinner with our families, go to church, and have the government leave us alone. We don’t get offended by much. But like you said, if you use the wrong, politically incorrect word, those on the left have a conniption and start screeching at you, calling you every “-phobic”, “-ist”, etc.
