Thats what Bungie was betting on. Hoping that if they add these "Shiny" weapons and slap FOMO on it, they could inflate their Numbers and get people to play again Until Finale Shape. Bungie was sitting at 20-30k Players on Steam, that can be very reflective on PS and Xbox, saying Bungie was Losing players players bad and fast. The Update only got them to 90k at Most, but ive been seeing it trickle back down.
The Drop rates are low, to keep you playing, it instill FOMO, 99.8% sure they wont alter it till 3-2 weeks out from Finale Shape.
Edit: Update brought in 100k+ Players, they are now sitting at 70-80k Players according to Steam.

There is ZERO FOMO for the shiny weapons. You’re handed one of each from the quests.

I mean the “curated” rolls from the quests are mediocre at best and only have one trait in every column, including mag/barrel. True shiny [u]drops[/u] (double perks/randomly rolled) are very [i]VERY[/i] rare. This game has needed drops like this for a long time, but outright removing the ability to obtain them when the final shape launches most certainly makes them fit the definition of FOMO. There’s a known end to their availability + they are exceedingly rare (not a bad thing in a vacuum) = players will naturally stress out over getting one with an even halfway decent roll. To be clear, I don’t really care either way because I’m fine getting normal drops with the rolls I want , but I’ve maxed my rep with Shaxx, and spent close to 600 or more trophies with one usable shiny. Not great, not even really good, just usable. That’s a little bit obnoxious.
