It seems absurd that I have something like 400 guns and feel like I don't have enough room, and yet random rolls and the impossibility of retrieving items makes it feel impossible to keep enough vault space for all the different archetypes of weapons.
I wasn't expecting this to be a problem; I'm surprised as many of my guns from when I stopped playing (Beyond Light) are still usable now. I have a vault full of guns and a fairly large pile of engrams and little idea of how to decide what's worth preservation, let alone what to do with any new drops.
It was easy to pare down my armor with the removal of elemental attunement, but I don't know how to keep making room in my arsenal and would welcome advice. I've only been back for about a month, so there's a lot to take in. I imagine that the things I will need in The Final Shape will differ from what I need right now, but I don't really know how to plan for that. I don't know what I'll need and so I don't really know how to decide what's not worth keeping.

I try (tried at least, I’ve barely played in the last year and can’t be bothered to vault manage) to keep at most 1-2 of each archetype for PvE and maybe 1 each for PvP. There’s a few exceptions (way too many kinetic 140 handcannons in this game for me to only keep a couple), but that keeps my vault with a hundred extra slots or so

If it has a low kill count, is not masterworked, is sunset, or has been strongly powercrept, delete it.

General rule of thumb I go off is 'have I used it in x months or does it have a substantial amount of kills' Y1 guns are basically pointless to keep outside of those with alternative elements you like running - ie inaugural address with solar I keep my old recluse/MT because they're at ~60-100k kills but got rid of most of them, crafted or weaker weapons are also dismantled - no point me keeping swarm/wendigo when edge transit is just better in most cases - same thing goes for stuff like crafted apex instead of hothead etc

The only weapon we have ever needed is Travelers Chosen Damaged. Cade is going to fix it to us soon.

Occasionally I dig through my vault and see what I know I actually use, while seeing what I can dismantle from things I never actually use.

Honestly, if you haven't played since Beyond Light, you should probably just delete all your weapons in your vault (unless any hold sentimental value). Better version of all the weapon types have come out since then. Start using whatever drops for you going forward. Get some craftable weapons if you can. Farm some Into the Light weapons. (I believe weapons have a change coming to perks in The Final Shape, which includes all the Into the Light weapons. I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that we will be able to do Enhanced perks on non crafted weapons, but only those on The Final Shape and Into the Light weapons.) Or you could do what I did and pull out each weapon from your vault and go kill stuff. If you like how it feels, keep it, if not, delete it. That's the longer, more tedious process. But like I said, better version of weapons have come out since Beyond Light.

dump the ones you never used unless they are great rolls. if there is zero kills on it dump it. get rid of weapon types you do not use.
