I really hate that illegal products (sold everywhere) can be programmed to copy a recoil pattern exactly. Bungie bans the name of the device in the forum, but NOT the device in game, THEN comes up with a recoil pattern that can be "scripted" instead of random. Rust had this issue years ago, a set recoil pattern led to massive scripting issues, to the point they had to change it to a random recoil pattern. Why is Bungie working backwards vs cheaters? Could they maybe spend those resources somewhere else? Do they have a grand plan to foil cheaters with these changes?

  • I was actually confused by this comment until just now, dude deterministic recoil is not an anti-cheat it's a console player handicap probably dropping in specifically to impede players. Bungie was going off about "skill creep" when this change was made

  • Yeah I agree, I just wanted to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt. which is why I put a ? mark on it, for discussion purposes rather than me spewing facts ^-^ I would say it's possible that is Bungie's plan, but I don't think so. I think they are oblivious, it's almost like non-gamers are calling the shots.

Hey dude. There is no grand plan. Cheaters aren’t ever going to be defeated, in fact they have the advantage in this war. Basically, company’s make their cyber security. Eventually an exploit is found and then the company can patch it. This cycle continues forever. You can spend millions chasing your tail, or you can do nothing, outcome is the same either way. There is no perfect system, and you can’t just improve everything forever. You only know your weakest point when it breaks, so in a perfectly normal cyber security situation, the bad guys get to win pretty often. I don’t know if that makes you feel better or worse, but hopefully it helps you see things from the other side a little bit.

  • There's that but also making weapons harder to use when anyone could recognize cheaters will adopt a workaround is counterproductive and I'd say irresponsible. This just makes it more difficult for people on the straight and narrow to combat players with 3rd party devices

  • I’m sorry but you’ve lost me, it seems you’re assuming information I don’t have.

  • Deterministic Recoil gives effected weapons a unique recoil pattern outside of the recoil direction stat and you have examples like Recluse that are especially unwieldy compared to weapons without the stat. Given that a lot of cheat devices can compensate for this it just makes it more difficult to hit your shots for the regular player.

  • I mean I don't think doing nothing has the same effect as spending millions... The rest though, I 100% agree. Until more tangible legal action takes place, not just against companies, but users as well, nothing will change the cat vs mouse.

  • But it does, you can’t agree with everything else I said and not that part. It doesn’t matter how much Bungie spends, the criminals will get ahead. Bungie don’t know what to patch until it’s exploited. It takes time, it’s not a problem you can just throw money at, unfortunately. And like I said, even when you do everything right the bad guys will still win often. It’s a crap situation, and there really is nothing bungje can do. Let me put it to you this way dude, you know the American military? Spends hundreds of billions a year on remaining cutting edge and ensuring they have the best DPS possible? Even they are frequently the victim of cyber attacks. Bungie don’t have a chance, this issue is completely beyond them.

  • You're wrong. Bungie sued and won against a number of cheating website, google it yourself, all of those companies no longer offer D2 cheats except one. There is no way that didn't make a difference. If you think it didn't then you didn't play d2 on pc during the Beyond Light time. Throwing money does help. No it doesn't solve it, but it does help contain it.

  • Those people were selling accounts and account services. That’s a pretty wide umbrella you’re casting, lumping in KBM emulators and carry services with each other.

  •
Cheaters aren’t ever going to be defeated, in fact they have the advantage in this war.
You said cheaters, that's a broad term my guy. An no they weren't recov services, they provided software cheats. Just google bungie lawsuit, you'll find them.

  • We were very clearly talking about input devices and KBM emulators, don’t even attempt to twist my words. I’m familiar with the case, that’s why I’m telling you they were a carry service, because they were. I fail to see the connection? Also, the 3 biggest carry services are still operational. So, what difference has it made?

  • I didn't twist words, you said cheater. What is the difference between a hardware cheat and a software cheat? They are both cheats man. You are wrong. I can't name the companies cause I'm sure I'll get reported, but there is G***rcheats, P*****taim, V*****cheats, W*******s just to name a few software cheating companies that no longer offer d2 cheats because of lawsuits. To my knowledge, bungie has never sued a recov service.

  • What you just said there about devices that copy recoil patterns, how TF did bungie not realize they were helping those people?

My guess? Shear incompetence..... OR some grand plan to foil the cheaters. Like maybe they have a way to detect exact recoil scripting, but not random recoil scripting? Going off of Bungies track record.... (State of the game 2023) "We know you all want new pvp maps but we just aren't going to do that."

  • Maybe the ones making the decisions have money invested in the assistive peripherial companies.

  • I doubt it, especially since Sony is trying to ban it from PlayStation, and Sony owns Bungie.... Though it sure seems like it huh

  • Sony also sell their own KBM emulators for console, but I like the enthusiasm you put into your fanfic.

  • I mean you could be right, corporate greed knows no bounds, I would just like to think a Japanese company would have more honor than that. (Like how Nintendo was doing poorly so the CEO declined his paycheck until things turned around.)

  • The subject is a little more nuanced than you are giving it credit. The reason things like this exist, are for the disabled, or people who have specific motor function restrictions. It’s why accessibility and options are so important. Yes, some people misuse those input devices, but the amount it gets demonised is so silly. I’ve used an emulator, they are no substitute for skill. If you’ve used a controller all your life and you try to use a mouse, even with Destiny’s double layered aim assist you’re gonna get humiliated. They are just input devices dude, move on with your life.

  • Lol, sure I get it. HOWEVER they are not marketed as accessibility. Take a look at anyone of the devices website. Anyone claiming otherwise is just wrong. I'm just having a conversation on a forum, my life is just fine thanks. (I haven't used a controller in over a decade.)
