Steam Deck Linux Support and

Dear Bungie Community Team, I'm reaching out to express my enthusiasm for Bungie's games, particularly Destiny 2, and to request support for the Steam Deck platform as well as Linux players. I believe this move would not only benefit Steam Deck users but also significantly expand the player base on Linux systems. Here are several reasons why adding support would be a great idea: Increased Player Base: The Steam Deck's popularity is rapidly growing, and supporting it would tap into a new segment of dedicated gamers who prefer a handheld gaming experience without compromising on game quality. Accessibility: Supporting Linux expands accessibility, allowing players on this platform to enjoy Bungie's games without needing to rely on workarounds or third-party software, enhancing the overall gaming experience. Community Engagement: Embracing Linux and the Steam Deck demonstrates Bungie's commitment to inclusivity and community engagement, fostering a positive relationship with a passionate group of gamers who value open-source platforms. Technical Advancements: Developing for Linux and the Steam Deck encourages technical advancements and optimizations that can benefit the game across all platforms, leading to a more polished and immersive gameplay experience for everyone. Market Expansion: With the gaming landscape evolving rapidly, supporting emerging platforms like the Steam Deck and Linux positions Bungie at the forefront of innovation, potentially attracting new players and driving continued success in the gaming market. I believe that by extending support to these platforms, Bungie can create a more inclusive and diverse gaming ecosystem, offering players more choices and opportunities to enjoy their favorite games. Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to the possibility of seeing Bungie's games on the Steam Deck and Linux systems in the future. Agree as someone that owns the deck ,rog ally, also claw for review purposes an a decent 4090 rig i find myself playing the handhelds more with factors such as work, kids, partner etc I'd love to be able to play on the steam deck it's more than capable also has good battery life ,it's just bungie devs and the anti cheat that is the issue ,being mobile while gameing as well is way more sociable an healthier I'm guessing it might have something to do with Microsoft sponsoring d2?

    •
Increased Player Base: The Steam Deck's popularity is rapidly growing, and supporting it would tap into a new segment of dedicated gamers who prefer a handheld gaming experience without compromising on game quality.
Steam's player base is Steam's player base, unlikely to see any noticeable increase just from those few who only play on Steam deck, and linux users account for less of a population than Mac so really no user base to chase there.
Technical Advancements: Developing for Linux and the Steam Deck encourages technical advancements and optimizations that can benefit the game across all platforms, leading to a more polished and immersive gameplay experience for everyone.
Hardware advancements rarely do anything for software without the game devs recoding to take advantage of them. Steam deck's big update was to the screen, so not much advancement there. What your analys did not factor in was the increased cost of supporting another operating system one that does not play well with their in house anticheat. Training player support staff on linux os the time spent qa testing on steamdeck and linux boxes. You are asking for hundreds of thousands of annual cost for a handful of game sales. Cost to benefit ratio is not in your favor. and Linux users have been stating linux is future for 25+ years I have been in tech and they still are not user friendly enough to capture meaningful market share. Joe gamer does not want to spend their game time in linux command lines.

    • I wish they would let us play on Linux. It's my preferred OS. Whenever I'm on a break from Destiny, I ditch Windows and install Linux.
